Chapter 18

From That Moment She Knew

“Oh! You’re home, sweetheart!” Mula sa pagkakaupo ni Mommy sa sofa habang may mga papel na binabasa ay tumayo siya upang salubungin ako.

She’s wearing a white high neck long sleeves sweater paired with a brown tight skirt, perfectly hugging her perfect curves. My Mom never failed to look good, regal, and expensive. Well, she’s Dra. Wynona Clavel, she’ll always be that woman that many are insecure of but none of them could ever drag her down.

I’ve realized that envy is one of the most wicked emotion that a person could ever feel. And if you let it win, it could push you to do something that might harm others… and the worst part is, as you destroy other people out of your envy, you are also destroying yourself in the process.

Never let your jealousy blind you from seeing the things that you are capable of doing. We all have unique gifts from God. You are capable of doing something that other’s can’t. Just remain patient because in His perfect time, you’ll see, you will bloom and shine beautifully.

I smiled widely, giving her my warmest hug. She pressed a kiss on the side of my head. “How was school, honey?” She asked, smiling sweetly at me.

I sigh, subtly rolling my eyes. “Exhausting,” I said.

She looked quite flabbergasted. “Ikalawang araw pa lang ng pagbabalik klase niyo, ah.” She said. “Anyway, I know you can do it, honey.” She added, cheering me up as she softly removes the strands of my hair that has been scattered on the side of my face.

I nodded my head. “Thank you, Mommy.”

“By the way, pinapakumusta ka ng Daddy mo. He’s on his way home, sinundo na ni Wendel kanina. Malapit na daw sila. My God, I can’t wait to see your Dad,” She said rolling her eyes upward. “I’m going to have sex tonight!” She exclaimed, giggling like a teenager.

I looked at her ridiculously. “Mom!” I said, feeling my cheeks flushing. Diyos ko, itong nanay ko talaga! Imbes na ma excite ako dahil uuwi si Daddy ay nawiwindang ako dahil sa mga pinagsasasabi ng Mommmy ko.

She laughed. “What? We’re married! Ano ba’ng akala mo? Nag jack en poy lang kami ng Daddy mo kaya ka nabuo?”

I facepalmed so hard, letting out a groan and she just laughed even more.

“Alright, alright, I’ll stop. But you know, honey, your Dad just never aged,” She paused, sighing dreamily. “He’s just so hot! Especially when he talks about his surgeries like Patent Ductus Arte— Arthesaurus, whatever the hell he calls it.”

“Arteriosus. Patent Ductus Arteriosus ligation.” I told my Mom, smiling at her. My Dad told me that a PDA happens when a vein that normally closes at birth remains open, which is the ductus arteriosus. And when that vein stays open, the oxygen-rich blood that should be circulating all over the body will just go back to lungs instead.

Her eyes quite narrowed as they lit up in delight.

“Oh my God… Did you really come out from me? My baby girl is so smart!” Proud na proud niyang sabi.

“Hindi naman, Mommy. It just happened that I asked Dad about that kind of surgery before and he explained it to me kaya natatandaan ko pa.” I told her to slightly deflate my ego. It’s just embarrassing when a woman smarter than you calls you ‘smart’.

She stared at me adoringly. “Manang-mana ka talaga sa Daddy mo…” She said.

“I adore him as much as I adore you… He’s a loving husband, a loving Dad, and a great surgeon. You think I can marry a guy like him?” I asked, slightly grinning.
