Soccer
As I already said Soccer (or how british ppl say: football) is the most important sport here and we're really proud of being World Champion 2014 ;)
Well here are the main rules of soccer:
You play with 11 players for 90 minutes.
(Of course there are versions for children where you only play 30 minutes with 7 players or so etc.)
There's a 15-minutes-break after 45 minutes which is called "Halbzeit"
The goal is basically to kick the ball into the goal. You're not allowed to touch the ball with your hands. If you do so it's a foul.
There is one goalkeeper (german: Torwart). He is allowed to touch the ball with his hands because he usually "guards" the goal.
Then there are three other positions: clearance (Abwehr), midfield (Mittelfeld), strike (Sturm/Angriff).
Strikers usually make most goals, sometimes also midfield players and clearance are actually defensive.
The rules are really easy, you're not allowed to touch the ball with your hands or to hurt someone else.
There a several punishments after a foul. Yellow card (Gelbe Karte) as some kind of advance warning, red card (Rote Karte) then you have to leave the field and your team has to play with only 10 players. Or things like penalty (Elfmeter) or free kick.
But all in all it's really easy and fun and I used to play football in our garden with our neighbors and friends and it was really cool and a lot easier than american football.
