"Why must we move here mom?" asks my eldest daughter, Phoenix, who's sitting in the back of the car, I'm driving, with her twin brother, Griffin, and her little sister, Venus, "Can't we just stay in Miami?" I sigh while rolling my eyes, since she's been asking since the moment I picked them up from the airport. They were staying at my dad's house, since my mom's a prostitute and my little sister is...
"I know you want to stay there, but your dad wants a new start..." I state with a sad tone, "You know what I mean?" Griffin groans, sliding down his seat a little.
"Mom, because of this, my girlfriend left me." Griffin mutters. I sigh.
"C'mon, guys. Look on the bright si-" I get rudely interrupted by Phoenix.
"Mom! There isn't a bright side to look at!" I chuckle.
"Darling, right this second, another Phoenix from a different dimension could be giving birth to a beautiful baby girl and/or boy."
"Just 'cause you're a fucking scientist with a stupid portal gun that can replace us with happier versions, doesn't mean you can force us to be happy, mom." Griffin says, sounding depressed at this situation.
"I know, I know... It's just... I thought you'd be happy, you know?" I sigh, giving all my attention back to the road, "I'm sorry your dad an-"
"Mommy?" Venus calls me. I hum in response "Whewe is daddy?" the 3 year old asks, mispronouncing 'where'.
"Uh..." to be honest, I have no idea where Peter is. He always runs around, getting drunk and then beats the shit out of me. Naturally, I'd rip his head off, but the kids... "He's at work." I lie through my teeth. Silence falls apon us and we just awkwardly sit there. I grow bored and clear my throat, catching their attention, "So, Phoenix, Griffin, it's your 15th birthday on Saturday. You excited?"
"No, mom. I wanna spend it with Hailey..." Griffin sighs loudly before I let out a louder groan.
"Fuck Hailey. Fuck your attitudes and fuck your birthday! I've been trying to be all happy and shit, when I can give you my honest opinion of birthdays and Hailey. First of all: wow! Another year of my life being annoyed by assholes like you! Second: she's a fucking girl, Griffin! There's billions apon billions apon billions of girls on the world and in the universe. Suck it up!" I breathe heavily with anger as we all continue to drive in silence. I sigh, realizing that I swore at them for no reason, "I'm sorry, kids..."
"Is fime, mommy." I take a peek at Venus over my shoulder.
"It's not, Venus. I raised my voice because I'm mad at your dad... At what he did." I glance down at my wrist, noticing that the slit he gave me was showing. I clear my throat and pull my jacket sleeve over my wrist and thumb "I shouldn't have done that and I'm sorry about it..."
"W-we understand, mom." Phoenix places a hand on my shoulder "You have the right to be mad-"
"I have no right to take it out of you. I'm not killing myself over it, Phoenix. I just think that I shouldn't have shouted at you guys." I calmly state.
"It sure felt like it." Griffin says with attitude. My eye twitches.
"You want me to go back there and spank your brains out, darlin'?" I hear Griffin gulp "Yeah. What I thought."
