"Stop pulling so hard, you're gonna dislocate my arm woman!"
"Well hurry up then you turtle."
"It's not like we're late or anything," I complained trying to drag the hyper Fayre down as she presses the door bell. "You're going to scare my supposedly new roommates if you keep this up."
"They've already met me," Fay rolls her eyes. "And they love me."
The sound of laughter rang out beside me and I just realized that the door had opened up as I was trying to loosen the grip the crazy lady had on my arm.
Looking up to try and excuse myself and Fay, I am met with the gaze of some very attractive eyes.
Standing on the other side of the door to welcome us are beautiful specimens of humankind. You may think I'm overexaggerating and I probably am, but they are very attractive, the type of people who come straight out of magazines. A woman with jet-black and pin-straight hair, with beautiful hazel eyes and was about 5'9, tall compared to my 5'5. She's wearing an army green jumpsuit with a light brown belt wrapped around her waist.
Looming behind her was a lean male, around 6'0, chestnut brown hair that was gelled back, framing his face. Green eyes and angular face, Im assuming that he is a perfect example of what people think a swimmer looks like. He is wearing a simple dark blue t-shirt and dark grey dress pants.
I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they were a couple. They looked absolutely gorgeous and together they looked like what I picture a power couple to be.
"Hey Allegra, hey Mako," Fayre greeted the pair in front of us, finally letting go of the death grip she had on my arm. "It's great to see you guys again."
Mako just nods his head smiling while Allegra pulls Fayre into a hug.
"It's great to see you too. We need to go out again sometime, preferably without the boys this time," Allegra says. I believe she has an australian accent.
"Oh definitely! I heard there was this new store a few blocks from here actually. Anyways, this is my friend Naila," Fayre motions to me as I wave.
"Hi, Im Naila Mendoza," I offer my hand to them with a polite smile but instead of taking my hand Allegra also pulls me into a hug.
"No need to be formal, I can tell we'll be good friends from what Fay here has said about you," She says pulling away. I swear I don't understand how her smile can be so big yet it suits her. On most people it might be creepy. "This is Mako by the way"
Mako sticks out his hand with a smirk.
"Pleasure to meet you Naila."
"Likewise Mako."
Taking his hand in mine I realize his hands are soft but his fingertips on the back of my hands were calloused.
"I apologize for asking but do you play guitar by any chance?"
All three people look at me oddly and I realize it mightve been an awkward question to ask.
"I'm so sorry if that sounded strange," I said, trying to fix the situation. "It's just that my fingertips are also more calloused than the rest of my hand like yours and the cause of that for me is because I play guitar, not well of course but enough that my fingertips are harder on my left hand than my right hand and I realized that you shook my hand with your left, probably because of Allegras placement in front of you or you are left handed but play right handed guitar."
At this point I feel my cheeks heat up as I try to find a way to get the intense gaze of both strangers away from myself when they all start chuckling.
"It's quite alright. Not many people are able to tell but yes I do play guitar but I'm not left handed. That was very observant though," Mako says.
I honestly didn't understand why but he seemed to look at me with some sort of approval but I just brushed it off and ignored it. Allegra nods and takes both me and Fayre by the arm, leading us inside.
After taking off our shoes, (A/N: I am from Canada, as well as a part of an Asian household so this is regular practice as well as a courtesy, when entering a house) Mako and Allegra show us through to the living room where there are three other people sitting and talking around a few different couches and loveseats.
Allegra and Mako join them and motion for me and Fayre to follow their lead. Fayre immediately bounces onto one of the empty couches and I take a seat beside her slowly, nervous, feeling the five sets of eyes on me.
"Hey guys! How have you been?" I hear Fayre question the group and hear a few responses myself.
I slowly start to zone out, not really wanting to be here when I hear the girl beside me introduce me as if she just realized I was there. I don't blame her for not remembering I was there. When I get quiet, I am very good at not causing any attention to myself.
"This is my friend Naila, she actually goes to the same school as you do."
I straighten my back and mask my uncomfort.
"Hi, I'm Naila Mendoza," I wave and smile. "I wasn't aware we went to the same Uni actually," I say turning to subtly glare at Fay.
"Yeah, well, we've noticed you around actually but you don't really seem to stick around campus, do you?" A black haired male on my right said, bearing a friendly smile on his face he had darker skin and looked to be middle-eastern. If I'm being totally honest, he reminded me of a playboy, he has that aura you know? But who am I to judge? "My name is Mikael by the way."
I offered my hand which he took and shook twice before leaning back in a lounging position. Looking at the other male and female I wasn't introduced to yet. The woman I assumed was African from the thick accent she spoke with had thick box-braids that are put into a bun on top of her head. She looked at me with sharp hazel eyes and a soft smile on her face.
"Hi! I'm Elizabeth, Eliza for short, my parents are old fashioned," the woman across from me said, "We've actually wanted to approach you a few times but you always seemed to run off."
"Oh well, I apologize. I usually have work right after my classes," I explain. "And I'm sorry for asking but where are you from? I love your accent."
"Thank you," Eliza replies. "Yes, I was born in Tanzania but moved to Ireland when I was a teenager."
"That's so cool. My-," I hesitated for a second. "My dad went to Tanzania before I was born, and met the Maasai tribe. He even went on the walking safari they do for sacrifices."
I feel Fay resting a hand on my thigh, and squeezing slightly trying to provide me comfort. Looking at Fay I try to smile but I'm sure it's more like a grimace.
"Interesting, not many outsiders want to go on that journey."
I simply looked down and nodded.
"Anyways, Im Ian," the guy who sat beside Eliza said, "I'm from New York, but I was born in Japan."
I guess that makes sense, he looks like he might be half japanese. I find half asians look so pretty but then again, I find all of these people beautiful. His hair was in a buzzcut and he had light blue eyes, which I think were contacts but I cant be totally sure. On his lower lip, eyebrows and ears were few piercings. Then I also realize I haven't responded yet and I might not be making a good impression
"Nice to meet you, I'm Filipino. I was born and raised in Canada though."
"I guess were all from around the world, eh?" Mako says with a goofy grin. "I'm from New York like Ian, and Allegra is from Melbourne, Australia."
"Wow, you guys are so diverse," I think aloud. "How did you meet each other?"
Naila started to respond but Mikael beat her to it.
