When I was finished cleaning up my mess I stayed in the kitchen with Eliza, chatting or listening to the noise the rest made in the living room as they got into playing some video games.
Once the food was done Eliza got Ian to try and wrangle the childish adults to the table, trying to finish the racing game they were in the middle of and finally complied when Ian turned off the TV, though the three let out screams to the male. He merely glared and they all shut up and moved, albeit sluggishly, to the table.
I moved to put a good serving of food on each person's plate though everyone tried to take the ladle away from me. I threatened to hit them with it if they didn't stop so they all sat down, somewhat shocked that I had just threatened them but I just ignored them. Sitting back down I gave myself a smaller portion of food and put the ladle away.
Waiting for the rest to eat they all continued to stare at me and I started to try and shrink away from the looks. Did I do something wrong? Was I not supposed to serve them or was it that I threatened them and now they're mad.
My mind was going a mile per minute trying to figure out what I did wrong before more food was put on my plate and I looked at Mako who was just smiling at me.
"Thank you for helping out with the cooking Nai, you really didn't have to," relieved that he wasn't mad and looked around to see the rest smiling at me as well.
"I didn't do anything, Eliza made this," I motioned to said female.
"Yes, but you made dessert. It really looks good guys, could even be better than Mako," The rest expressed some form of excitement at the mention of dessert and began eating.
Figuring that none held any I'll feelings towards me I also started eating when each had taken a bite. It was a habit of mine to make sure that everyone had eaten before I had to ensure that they were eating as they should.
After Mikael had taken the dishes and placed them in the sink saying that it was his turn to do them and I took out the mango float that was properly frozen. Mikael followed smaller plates in hand.
Refusing to give me the serving knife and forcing me to sit down in my chair I pouted while Mikael cut through the frozen dessert and placed perfect cubes of layered sweetness onto the smaller plates.
"You know Naila," I looked up from my plate to Allegra. "If you really want to help out around here why not do the gardening? Orion had mentioned that you love that type of design arrangement."
It's true, I did love being able to plan those things out. When I was younger I always helped out with the garden with my mother, it had been a while though. I had also taken design classes for different types of projects so it might help.
Thinking about it for a second, I nodded slowly. I started planning a bit in my head, what fruits and veggies I could plant so Eliza might have fresh ingredients, maybe a bit of space where we could lounge around, and a lot of flowers and plants and things.
"Yeah sure, that could be fun," I smiled and everyone smiled back a couple of them nodding Eliza bouncing in her seat excitedly.
"Great! I just hope you know we are not forcing you to do this. This is totally your choice, you know? We just figured you might enjoy this the most," Ian was looking a little worriedly at me, probably not wanting to pressure me into anything which I appreciated.
"No, really. It's fine! I'd love to do this. I really don't want to seem like I'm just leeching off of all of you and not pulling my own weight," I waved off the arguments that I knew was going to happen and continued. "I'm happy that you guys are looking out for me and are welcoming this way. Really guys, it means a lot."
"Oh it's fine! Allegra and I were so happy when we found out you actually agreed on staying with us. Now us girls aren't outnumbered by those apathetic weirdos," Eliza gestured to the men while trying to steal a spoonful of Mako's dessert, Mako attempting to swat the woman's hand away.
"You call me an apathetic weirdo and then you steal my dessert? I don't think so!" Pushing away his plate from Eliza's reach and shielding it with his arms, he shovels the half of it into his mouth.
Teasing both the man and woman, we fell into a comfortable momentary silence, the clinking of utensils on plates gave me some sort of relief knowing they didn't mind the treat I had made.
"Just curious, what sort of hobbies do you have, lion queen? I mean, we know about the guitar thing because of Mako but-" All of our gazes land on Mikael who was speaking but I was the most confused it seemed.
"Whos 'lion queen'?"
"You are teddy! Like Nala from the Lion king. The mate of Simba. Nala? Naila?"
"Jesus, Mikael!" Ian rolled his eyes filled with mirth. "Youre trying way too hard with the nicknames this time."
"C'mon dreamy~, I know you love them," The male paused for a second. "And me. Of course you also love me!" Pretending to flip his hair dramatically.
"You still haven't answered the question though Nai~. From what Orion and Fay has told us, you're very interesting aren't you, though they told us that we'd have to ask you for all the details." He added on the second half after a worried look from me.
I hesitated for a second but figured it wasn't that big of a deal and either way there would be no harm in my new roommates knowing a bit more about me.
"Well, I decided to learn the guitar. The lessons ended quite quickly and then I started to teach myself with YouTube and online things." A friend of mine started persuading me to make covers and post them but I wasnt about to tell them that. I got a good following but quit right before coming here. "While I was still in Junior High I was in a couple of the school plays. Later in Highschool me and a friend started making our own scripts and stories for potential small films which we got some recognition for as well. Were also currently very much involved in the protests and rallies going on as well as the pride parade that goes on back in our city and I am talking too much. I'm sorry, I ramble too much sometimes. You guys couldve told me to shut up. I wouldnt have minded."
I hid smiled, my hair shielding me from the stares as I laughed awkwardly. I felt an arm make its way around my shoulders.
"Never say that Naila. We asked and it's amazing that youve done all of that. It's so cool you are a part of those things now too." I looked up and saw Ian looking down at me with a smile.
"Exactly! It's so amazing you were so involved. We participate in the pride parades here too! Well we get a few people from school to help us make our own float type thing. We have posters all across the school. I'm surprised you havent participated before," Mako explained excitedly, hand gestures flying all over the place, well, as much as he could as Mikael glomped on the male and hung onto Mako.
"Sorry about that, as much as I wanted to join, it's been a busy couple of years for me," Smiling at the group, Ian still hadnt let go of me. Pulling him down to sit in my own seat while I plopped myself in his lap, trying to ignore the surprised looks I was getting and went back to taking bites of my dessert.
Shaking out of his surprise, Ian takes the fork out of my hand and gets a good amount on the utensil. Instead of eating it himself, he hovers it in front of me. I glance at him confused and all I receive is a small nod and a grin. I opened my mouth and popped in. Humming happily, I swallow and grin widely at the male.
I felt my head being pat and I sunk a little more into Ian, very happy with the sensation.
The rest had stopped their shocked looks and went back to some conversation, but I could see them sneaking glances at us as Ian proceeded to feed me and I him when I no longer wanted any. They weren't mad looks but more curious or giddy I think.
