Jackson's pov:
"Okay class, time for Reading." Mrs. Brown announced.
Ah yes, reading. Reading is very easy for me and I'm too advanced for these books.
I know you're thinking I must be a stupid kid since I don't really like doing productive things but I'm actually smart.
Just when I want to be, of course.
Mrs. Brown passed out balled up pieces of paper.
"We will be popcorn reading 'A bad case of stripes' by David Shannon. The balled up piece of paper you have has a number inside of it. The number determines when you should read." she explained.
Everyone nodded then opened the pieces of the paper they had to see which number they got.
I got 14. I looked beside me, at Vincent's paper and he had 7.
"Ugh, read alouds," he mumbled, under his breath.
I asked, "What's wrong with reading aloud?"
"I'm not that good at reading out loud, I'm better off reading to myself." he replied as he looked up at me.
I said, "I won't know until I hear you read. Even if you make mistakes, it's okay because everybody makes mistakes."
He nodded then the teacher said, "Let's start reading. The person with the slip of paper that says 1, please start us off."
We looked around but suddenly the kid with the piece of paper started reading.
"Camilla Cream loved.... lima beans. But she never ate-ate.... them. All of her friends hated lima beans, and she.... wanted to fit in. Camilla was always.... worried about what o-other people thought of her." the kid finished reading with a smile.
Jeez, that guy sucks at reading. He read so slow and kept stuttering.
"Thank you for reading, the person who has slip 2, please start reading." Mrs. Brown instructed.
Thank you for reading? Eww, he read so bad. How could anyone be thankful for that type of reading?
I can already tell this is going to take a long time.
More and more students read. Some sounded good but some sounded bad.
A lot read slowly while some actually read at a good pace.
Mrs. Brown said, "Thank you for reading. The person with slip 6, can you start reading?"
We looked around once again, then the person who had slip 6 raised their hand.
They started reading, "Camilla was relieved.... She didn't want to miss the first day of school...... but she was afraid of what the other kids would say..... And she had no idea what to wear with those crazy stripes....."
What's with the long pauses kid? Just read it through. Gosh, I hate kids who read like that.
"Good job, the person with slip 7, please start reading." Mrs. Brown said.
Good job? That was a bad job! She keeps lying to this class- oh wait, slip 7?
Vinnie has slip 7! I looked over to him and he slowly raised his hand to show he had slip 7.
Let's see how good he is at reading, I'm sure he can't be that bad.
Mrs. Brown looked at him and said, "Go ahead and read, Vinci."
Vincent began reading, "That...."
He paused and couldn't really say the word so I whispered to him, "It's afternoon."
