Sabrielle opened her eyes slowly. It had been two months. Two months after the incident, she could not pronounce a word and the doctors were becoming hopeless. What was the meaning in life so rotten? she thought often. Life was nothing but darkness, a dark plain without stars. Just when she had begun to feel a sense of hope, just when she had started to recover, this had to happen. Was she destined for misery?
She could not understand why he was still here. Why was everyone around her trying to save what was left of her shattered soul? She was grateful at least that Alice had not gone through the same thing. One tragedy after another would not be something she thought she could bear.
"You have to recover, sister. Mother wants to see us. Once we go back home, all will be better, everything will be healed and we will be a family again!" Alice said, petting her hair."What for?" Sabrielle croaked her head down. Her voice was raspy. Yet, it had been the first few words she had said in quite some time.
Alice looked at her with a hint of venom in her eyes, "Had I not the need for you, I would have left you to die!" Alice thought maliciously. The police had not given up on investigating yet, and though she knew she had covered her tracks well, Alice was beginning to feel a bit paranoid. If she was to carry out her plan, she needed her to get up from this bed. Perhaps this had been too harsh a move, she thought, frustrated.
"What do you mean what for sister? We have so much to look forward to you and me! And we have to see mom before it's too late for us to get a fresh start...on everything!" Alice said cradling her in her arms, with the urge to suffocate her there and now. "I have no desire to leave, and well... I'm sorry kitten," Sabrielle said using her favorite nickname for her sister. Alice's blood boiled with more rage, how dare she talk to her with such familiarity!
"What is the urge to get her to her mother anyway? Wouldn't she prefer her daughter recover first?" a female voice said, waking Alice from her thoughts.
"Oh, Angel? I did not see you there," she gulped smiling as she saw Alexi and Ville behind them. "I mean, if her mother wanted to see her, she could get a ticket and come here," Angel added, stepping towards an increasingly intimidated Alice.
"My mother is bedridden, on her deathbed, hence her absence and my urge for us to travel, it is a long story, but I guess you would not know," Alice said defiantly. "In that case, why don't' you go to her? We can send Sabrielle with Ville once she is better, sick or not sick we can't risk this girl's health" Angel added as she began to get irritated. Something about this girl irked her.
"I... what if she doesn't get there on time! It is very important!" Alice said. "I am sure if it is meant to be she will get there on time," Angel said with a tone of threat in her deep voice. "Well, I hope she can and well, I erm... I have to make some calls," Alice said as she nearly ran out of the room.
Ville couldn't help but look suspiciously at the fleeing girl. Though she had proven to be caring to Sabrielle, he began to see why Jesse and the others did not feel fond of her. Something was off, yet at that moment, he had no time to make theories. He only cared about one person in the room, he held a roses bouquet in his hands.
"I'll leave you with her. We will keep watch," Alexi said as he and Angel walked out.
"Baby," Ville said, holding her hand. Sabrielle flinched. Here he was like every day, saving her little by little she did not deserve him. Ville deserved a goddess, not a broken puzzle. "How are you today? I brought you these. I am not much of a roses kind of guy but, I thought they would bring some light to the room," he said, placing the red roses in a vase the nurse had brought in at his request.
"Why do you do this?" she said, her voice hollow." Why do you still want me even after I was..." she bit her lip holding back tears. Ville approached her carefully, not wanting to set her off. "Because I love you, and If I leave you now, I will have left my seraphim to drown, and I will not," he said, tears in his forest eyes.
"Ok, I had enough of this!" Angel said, bursting in, scaring both Ville and Sabrielle out of their skin as Alexi stood behind her, an apologetic look on his face.
"He loves you don't you get it! If he did not he would not even have come back! But he values you! he adores you! Here you are, doing things that are only hurting you more! If you cared for him at all, you would know how much this hurts him! I know!" Angel said breathlessly as Alexi knowing better, did not approach her.
"I know it hurts. I can't imagine what you have been through, but I have been molested myself, and I know that I had to fight tooth and claw to recover and make something of myself!" Angel cried.
"I had to show those bastards that I was not going to let them win! But If all you are going to do is sit there and wallow in misery, then they have already won! SO GET UP, DAMMIT! SHOW THEM WHAT YOU ARE MADE OF! SHOW THIS MAN SOME LOVE FOR PETE'S SAKE!" Angel said teary-eyed, as Sabrielle stared at her, the light coming to her eyes, for the first time in a long time.
"And if what I have said is not getting through then, I will make Ville look the other way because he has done enough...it is up to you," Angel said, tapping her foot impatiently.
An empty silence filled the room as they all stood stuck to their spots. Angel was ready to take Ville by the hand and get him out of her. She wanted to get a reaction from Sabrielle, not just to wake her up but because she had been through the same ordeal. "Can....I....talk to Ville?" Sabrielle said, "Alone," she was still a bit shaken. Still, she felt guilty for not trying to make an effort even when Ville had always been here for her.
Sensing her distress, Angel took Alexi by the hand and, before leaving, she said, "Yeah, you can, but you better think carefully about what you are going to say," she added.
"You will never find someone like him again. He is like a brother to me. So, I can only imagine him as a lover and partner, don't do something stupid," Angel said, brooding as Alexi held his fire queen and led her out.
"She sure gave me an earful," Sabrielle said smiling slightly, as Ville stared at her, hoping Angel had not gone too far. "I..." she sobbed, "I am sorry I haven't been very nice...I...I am grateful for you being here," she said, shaking as Ville felt the barrier of ice around her collapse. He held her close, letting her cry it all out.
"It's ok, baby..shhh," Ville cooed, petting her. "It's ok to cry, to be weak at times that is all we can be," he said as she looked at him, and he helped her blow her nose. Sabrielle was crying incoherently.
"But just promise me this," he said as she nodded looking at him, "Promise me that no matter what you will be weak, only when I am able to hold you up and make you strong again," he said melting her again as she kissed him. Despite her trauma the pain, he was the only solid foundation in her world. Even if she now had Alice in her life, she knew that Ville had to be in it too.
He sighed into her kiss, missing her lips after such a long time without touching them. "I...I promise," she said as they held each other in silence for a while. "Still, Ville I also have to go see mom, even if it's hard," she said.
She recalled the letters she had shown to Ville in the past between her and her mother. "Unfortunately, that is something that I will not allow you to do alone. You will be stuck with me on that journey," Ville said, making her heart race. What would he think if he met her mom? Would he be disappointed?
"No matter what, you are stuck with me, so get used to it, baby. For now, do not worry about the future. I want to get you into rehab and out of here. I always have hated these places. We are all waiting for your return!" Ville said, kissing her forehead.
"Either way, I think you have earned yourself a brother and sister," he said, making her grin for the first time, so much that it hurt when she did. "Angel and Alexi, I feel like I will like them," Sabrielle said, hoping they would like Alice too.
Alice watched from her phone, almost crushing it. She had set a small pen camera on TV to spy on Sabrielle, "So he thinks he can tag along, huh? No matter, it won't ruin my plans, I will have my revenge," she said as she headed outside, her head pounding.
Thank you for lending me Angel.
