I SURVIVED
CHAPTER ONE
AN OLD FRIEND

We were in the car. Going to this "Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters" that Charles ran. I wasn't overly fond of Charles. He was to nosey for his own good. Trust me, if he had looked into my past, I would've killed him, no joke. You see, I was abused by my father and beaten by my mother. She saw me as a threat. She thought that men would see her as less attractive if she had a child, yes she wanted to have an affair. She always looked for men. She would do a lot of one night stands and my father was just a mistake. So, because she was my mother and I still loved her, I ran away. I didn't even know I was a mutant until that night. I was sitting with my back against a tree when a doe came up to me. She laid herself down next to me and two fauns came up and rubbed their cheeks to mine. That was when I noticed that I had been crying. The doe and her fauns made me happy, and flowers started to sprout out from the ground. They bloomed so fast. They were my favorite color, purple, and they were absolutely beautiful. Then I had an idea. This didn't alarm me, it excited me, and I was going to test. I stroked each faun with my hands and stroked the doe with a branch.

"Hello?" I was taken from my flashback by Peter waving his hand in front of my face. "Anyone in there?" I swatted his hand away.

     "What?" I asked.

     "We're here!" Erik announced.

Please tell me Charles didn't see that. I thought of my little flashback. I got out of the car and was greeted by a doe. She ran up to me. I recognnized her almost immediatley. I had named her that night so long ago. "Hello, Lily," I smiled and stroked her neck. If a doe could smile, she would be giving me a toothy grin.

"What's this?" Erik asked, dumbfounded and he probably thought I was crazy for naming a doe.

"She's an old friend," I told him. She rubbed her cheek against mine, it tickled so I giggled a little bit. "I missed you too old girl!" Charles, Erik, and Peter's mouths were all a little agape.  Then something happened that hadn't happened in a long time. I was happy, truly happy, and so beautiful violet flowers sprouted out of the ground by my feet. I picked up one of them and put it in my hair. Then I remembered that the boys were still there. "I'll see you tonight," I whispered to Lily. She nodded, and off she went.
"I didn't know that you had a thing with animals," Charles stated.

"Yeah," I said. "You'll find there are a lot of things you don't know about me," They all frowned.

"Then why don't you tell us," Erik insisted.

I sighed. "I was abused and beaten by my parents, my mother was a player, she hated me because she saw me as a threat, and so when I was 16 I ran away, that night I met Lily. Lily had two fauns then, but they both moved on. I loved my parents, but the feelings weren't mutual, that is why I can't stay anywhere for too long, I'll get attached, so, unless I can be useful, instead of a pitied girl, I'm going to leave," I told them.

"You will be useful, we could use your help, you could probably help Logan with teaching the kids how to defend themselves," Erik told me. I was starting to like him.

"Sounds good," I smiled, sort of fake.

"But what was with the flowers?" Peter asked.

"It's what happens when I am truly happy," I informed him. We then started to walk up the steps to the mansion.

     "Aren't you impressed?" Erik asked.

"To be honest, if I didn't know that it had to be this big to hold so many people, I would've said that it was just some great display of wealth, I'm not really impressed by that sort of thing," I said, shrugging.

"Well, then let's go," Charles rolled his eyes at me. I had a feeling that he was starting to hate me.

What did I do to him? I asked myself. Then I realized. I guess I might have been a little rude to him, but I hadn't had contact with someone who wasn't trying to kill me in years. Then I noticed that everyone was staring at the ground where my flowers were. "What?" I asked, following their gaze. I gasped when I saw that all my flowers had shriviled up. I knew what that meant, it only happened once before.

"What does that mean?" Peter asked.

Heartbreak. I thought, but I dare not say it outloud. "It just happens when I'm sad," that wasn't a total lie, but the thing was I didn't even know how my heart had broken. I mean, I was thinking about Charles, but I had just met him! I couldn't fall in love, I had made that mistake before, I was not going to make that mistake ever again. Erik and Charles raised their eyebrows but Peter seemed to buy it. "Let's just go," I said, starting to walk away from them, but Erik grabbed my hand.

"What does it really mean?" Erik asked.

"Heartbreak," I sighed. "I was just thinking about my parents," I said. "Now can we please just go inside?" I quickly changed the subject, hinting that I would no longer talk about it. Erik opened the door for us and we walked inside, where there were a bunch of people waiting for, most likely, Charles Erik and Peter. But my suspicions were proved wrong when a blonde girl came walking up to me.

"Hey! I'm Raven! You must be Violet!" she seemed cheery.

"Hello, Raven, yes I'm Violet, and if I may ask what is your power?" I asked her. Suddenly a perfect copy of myself was standing infront of me instead of Raven. "Mystique," I stated. She gasped. "Why is everyone so surprised that I know codnames?" I sighed.

"Do you know my codename?" a boy with blonde hair asked.

"Depends on your power," I shrugged. He smirked and started to turn around in circles, and a circle of flames surrounded him. "Havoc," he smirked once again.

"I have a feeling this one will be an okay excuse for a teacher," A man said.

"And what, pray tell, is your power?" I asked him. Suddenly claws sprouted out of his knuckles. "Hello, Wolverine," he sighed at that.

"Now you need to show us your power," he grunted. I shrugged and walked outside. I reached out my hand and pictured a beautiful willow tree, it sprouted almost instantly. "Nature, huh?" he didn't seem impressed. I whistled and a bunch of birds came out from the woods and landed in a circle around me.

"I also have a thing with animals," now his mouth was agape. I smirked and walked inside.
