SLOWLY MENDING A BROKEN HEART

Charles POV

     I knocked on the door to Violet's room, and she poked her head out. "Oh, hi," she said, opening the door for me to come in.

     "So... how you been doing?" I asked her, referring to her depression.

     "Better, I guess," she sighed. She looked down, then I noticed little streams of tears going down her face.

     "Hey, darling, what's wrong?" I asked, pulling her into a hug. She just sobbed into my shirt.

     "Read my mind," she sobbed.

     "What? Why?" I was shocked, I thought she hated that. I decided to just do it.

     This is why I'm afraid. I heard her voice say and then a wave of memories hit me and I gasped. Violet was on a swing in a park, and a boy came up to her.
     "Hey," the boy said.
     "Hi," Violet sighed, standing up and giving him a hug. "Jason, I have something to show you,"
     "Anything babe," the boy, supposedley Jason, said. Then I realized that this was her boyfriend. Violet reached her hand out and grew a little flower, meanwhile Jason was staring open-mouthed at her. "Let's go to my place," Jason suggested, looking around nervously. The scene flashed to Jason and Violet in some sort of basement. Jason was brutally beating Violet and screaming things at her. "You freak! I can't believe I ever loved a freak! I'm never trusting you again!" he shouted as tears streamed down her face. Then the image faded with her screaming.
     I was pulled out of the trance, gasping. "Darling, I'm so sorry," I pulled her into another hug, kissing the top of her head. "What else did he do to you?" she looked down, she was scared, and I didn't need to read her mind to know that.

     "He..... he...," she sobbed.

     "Just show me," I told her.

     "You would never want to see it, he...,"

     "What did he do to you?"I asked.

     "He.. he raped me, Charles," She sobbed even more. I gasped.

     "That son of a bitch!" I exclaimed. "He is going to pay for what he did to you," I growled.

     "Charles, to be honest, he already did," she sighed. "He was sent to jail after a year of keeping me in his basement," I, once again, gasped.

     "A year?" she nodded. I pulled her into a strong hug, letting her lean her head against my chest. "Darling, look at me," I lifted her chin up so she was looking me in the eye and decided to just go for it. I kissed her. She stiffened at first, but soon started to kiss back. I smiled into the kiss and pulled away, grinning like a madman. "Who else knows?" I brought the mood back to serious.

     "Only Raven," she sighed, leaning her head against my chest once more.

     "You know I love you, right?" I asked.

     "Love's a strong word," she told me.

     "I know, but it's true," I pulled her in for another kiss.

     "I think I love you too," she sighed, her minty breath tickling my lips. She buried her face in my chest once again, seeming to be shy, and I buried my face in her hair. She smelled like lavender and we just sat there, content in each other's arms.

     "What day do the students get here?" she asked out of the blue.

     "They come in a month," I told her.
