Y/n stood with back her braced against the wall of a shop, her big straw hat covered her narrowed eyes and pursed lips. Now 17 years old, she was on her own. The sun was hot as it beamed down on her bare arms and long dress that cascaded over her plush thighs and hips, two slits on each side of the dress. And resting on her hips were two holsters with twin katanas in them.
"Would you like to come inside?" A woman from inside the building she was leaning on asked. Y/n looked to the woman, the intensity of her gaze scaring the nimble lady.
"No thank you." She said, turning away again.
She looked out at the street, the remote village market was full of people who were window shopping. Y/n was stationed across the street from a trinket shop, just watching as people went in and out.
She had been there almost all day, not sure what she was waiting on, but her instincts told her to stay.
"As soon as we find my lotus chip, we can go."
Y/n perked up at the voice. It was old and raspy but still just as familiar to her. It had been years but she knew exactly who that voice belonged to. She looked up. There was an old man and a young one. The old man's hair was grey and his stomach was pudgy. He looked so much older than when she first met him, but y/n knew that caring smile from anywhere.
"Uncle Iroh..." she said astonished.
Why was Iroh here? And who was the man he was with? Iroh has always been her favorite adult. He was still around when she was very young, and he cared for y/n dearly. He bestowed wisdom on her and helped her during her self identity crisis phase. Even on the sea, Iroh would send y/n her own letters because he knew she couldn't read the other ones with the royal family.
She hadn't seen his face but maybe the young man knew where Zuko might be after all these years. Y/n watched as the two entered the shop and closed the curtains.
Y/n tipped her straw hat before entering the shop. Iroh was all over the place, looking at all the little trinkets in glee.
Y/n took a deep breath, this was her chance. Reaching into small sachel on her waist, she moved her hand around until she found the lotus chip of her pai sho set. She moved to Iroh and tapped his shoulder.
"Oh, greetings I-" Iroh paused. Y/n bowed and placed the chip in his hands.
"May that compensate at least a little for all the wisdom you've given me over the years." Y/n mumbled.
"Y/n! You've grown so much!" Iroh cheered.
"I sense great wisdom and discipline from you.""Zu- I mean Lee!" Iroh called out. The young man turned around and faced Iroh, and finally y/n got a chance to get a good look at him.
The man had a deep set scowl on his face. And his right eyes was surrounded by two layers of a nasty scar. But it was the pretty gold eyes he had that struck y/n. It was Zuko. She knew it had to be.
"What uncle?" Zuko snapped. Then his eyes caught y/n. He trailed his gaze over y/n's form a couple of times before he looked away, same growl in place.
Y/n approached him slowly.
"Zuko..." her eyes were wet as he stared her down. As she got closer, she noticed how his hair was cut around his ponytail, a sign of banishment.
Y/n reached out to cup his face and he grasped her wrist.
"Don't touch me." His voice was stern, pushing her hand back against her.
"I-"
"Uncle, you have your chip, the crew has uprighted the ship, let's go." Zuko said.
"Where are you going?" Y/n asked.
"Zuko is set on finding the avatar." Iroh replied, with his same sweet smile.
"Let me come with you." Y/n said, looking Zuko in his pretty gold eyes.
"No."
"Zuko." Iroh looked to him with a knowing look.
"I left you once, and it was the worst thing I ever had to do. Don't make me do it again, please." Y/n whispered softly.
She was just as beautiful as the last night he saw her. Her eyes just as bright, her voice just as sweet. Zuko Hated that after all these years, she still had just as strong of a hold on him, so strong that he could not refuse her.
"Fine, but one over step and you're out." He stated, leaving the tent and promoting y/n and Iroh to follow.
