Soot woke up before his litter mates. Klaus was still snoring softly, signalling that he, too was asleep. He took a heartbeat to look at his family, safe and asleep, but was off on his feet the next instant. He trotted over to the entrance, directly next to the dirt place, which smelled rancid and horrible. And then, without even so much as a glance over his shoulder, pushed his way through the fronds and brambles and into the real world.
He was blinded for a heartbeat from all the greenery, bit blinked it away. He shut his jaw as soon as he realized it was opened and puffed out his fur. It was chilly this morning. He planned on catching a squirrel to make up for the one Klaus caught. He didn't trust that cat, no matter who he was. There was just something off about him, though he couldn't quite put his claw on it. He opened his mouth to try and track the rodent, but then he realized he didn't know what a squirrel smelled like. Then, suddenly he smelled something. It didn't exactly smell like squirrel, but it has an animal likeness to it. He takes the smell to an opening in a very small tree. He got a look at the animal and it didn't look like a squirrel. It was smaller and brown and didn't have a long tail like the one from yesterday, but it looked edible. He tried to remember what Willow had been saying on the catching part. He remembered only something about crouching and making certain that you stay undetected by your prey. It seemed easy enough, but the animal seemed way larger than him. How was he ever going to kill it?
He got the thought out of his mind and got as close to the ground as he could. Then, he leaped. But in midair he was knocked to the ground by heavy paws. He turned his head to the side and watched the animal scurry off to hide. Angered, Soot tried to push his opponent off with his hind paws. He was super heavy and really strong. Soot thought he smelled like tom, but there was a familiar scent to the cat, like a warmness but fierce confidence. The black kitten went limp under his attackers weight and got him to retreat. But Soot lunged up at the opportunity and got back on his paws. The other cat simply sat back watching him with amusement. That was when he realized that the cat was in fact a she-cat, and not a tom. He was surprised that she was as strong as she was, but didn't take much time to ponder the thought. Instead he unsheathed his tiny sharp claws and dove onto her. But she didn't fight back. She barely even moved, yet she was blocking his attack completely. She had her paw rested on Soot's chest and was pushing him back. He tried to claw her leg away, but to prevail. He finally gave up and sat back on his haunches, exhausted.
He looked up at the she-cat and turned his head up in order to look her in the eyes. Now that he was really looking, he noticed how beautiful she was. Her long gray and white fur looked soft and smooth and her even fluffier tail swayed in the wind. And her eyes, her eyes were a gorgeous shade of green that reminded him of the leaves that grew from the shrubs around his den. She was just pretty. All this time she hasn't spoken, until now. And her voice was just as pretty as the rest of her.
"Hello young one. My name is Berryheart. You are trespassing on Moonclan territory." She puffed out her fur trying to look scarier. Soot stared up at her with wide yellow eyes. He tried speaking but his voice caught in his throat. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't know... I should be getting home though, my family will be shaking from their dens by now. Bye," he started to walk off, only to be pulled back by the scruff. She had taken hold of him and latched her teeth around his skin. She easily picked him up and trotted over to the forest that started right at the edge of a little meadow filled with wildflowers. He squirmed in her grasp and tried to wail out, but no sound escaped. Thoughts passed in this mind about what she was to do with him. What if she eats me? What if she takes me away and never let's me go back home? I never should've left my nest this morning...
His eyelids started to feel heavy and his body grew tired. The sun was just starting to set behind the mountains. He tried to fight the feeling of tiredness, but soon let the darkness claim him as he slipped into sleep.
