Just like in the image above, when you think of slavery you think chains.
You think whips.
You think violence.
You think white vs black.
You think superiors vs inferiors.
You think powerful vs weak.
But we are also slaves to the minds. Some of us are slaves to phones, depression, hatred etc. Some of us are slaves to an unfair justice system. We are all slaves to something and everyone interprets the word differently. Just because you can't see your chains, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. My ancestors were tormented, punished and died from heavy overwork. White men brought slaves from Africa to work in South and North America and children had to suffer the same fate. Young children were forced into prostitution and parents had to sell their child to get out of debt, yet white men classified themselves as humans? Is it not inhuman to keep people as animals? Is it no inhuman to rape and punish black women? If only it were one night and not 250 years. That is 3000 months, 13000 weeks, 91250 days of racial discrimination and suffering.
Something that had gone on for ages still brings rage. Slavery is the biggest, worst crime in humanity which gave birth to violence, rape, cruelty, greed and exploitation. We were humiliated, lynched and punished. Slavery and racism is a disease that takes control of your actions and your mind. We are all equally loved by God, so who gave them the authority to treat us any differently? Slavery is repulsive and a moral sin that should be abolished.
It forces me to speak because how can such behaviour be tolerated? We are not here to please others against our will.
We now have liberty yet we are gripped with fear. We may live as a good man and a kind woman but we are still threatened by unknown dangers. Not just you, but our whole race. How do we overcome this when other people over look it? They worked to stay alive and all thoughts of a normal life was eradicated as children. It's something I always tried to imagine but my mind could not understand such evil.
We talk, we get killed. We follow their rules, we get killed. We rebel, we get killed. We stay silent, we get killed. We are all still slaves to this day. We are slaves to the "power" white people have over us. Slavery comes from the deep depths of darkness, a business without kindness and making money of the helpless.
Issac Burgan, Frederick Douglas, Harriet Tubman, Wesley Harris and many more slave rebellions fought, but we are still fighting today for a change. For some, these events might be buried in your memory ; though to me and many other people, it is still fresh in my mind and in my heart. Slaves were whipped with leather and salt danced in their cuts yet couldn't seek any doctors for help. We may be slaves still to this day, but our hope is something that they can never kill.
