Daniel's POV

"Would you like some music, sir?" The limousine driver asked

"I want complete silence," I said while he nodded

I feel like I'm here but at the same time I'm not, my mind is trying to formulate a plan, an escape and I get a headache every single time when I realize there's none.

___

"Why didn't you tell me before?" I exclaimed

"I've been trying everything, Daniel. As much as possible, I didn't want to hassle you and your sister. I've consulted the best doctors the world has to give, tried therapy, took medication but it's not going to stop my fate, son."

"Dad, I'm not even eighteen yet, how do you expect me to run all of this?" I said, my voice wavering

"The vice-president, Mr. Gil, will walk you through everything, son. He'll teach you everything you need to know and I will do the same as long as I shall live."

"You have to focus on the company, study it, know every aspect possible, the board will not take a teenager seriously so you have to prove to them you're capable, we can't lose the company of many generations, Daniel. This company was born through sweat and blood; you can't let down the legacy."

___

I want to run away with Claudia but then what? Will I be able to give her a future she deserves? What about all the people that's working for Chase, Inc.? They will lose their source of income; they have a family to take care of, if I choose my happiness that'll result to the suffering of hundreds of people.

___

As I arrived back home, I didn't contact Claudia. I couldn't bring myself to do so. I drove to her house, discreetly parking a few streets away from her home.

I peered through their home's window and saw her laughing with glee as Casimir and her dad did some weird dancing, I smile at the sight of them. I close my eyes and tried to record her smile, her laugh; because this is the last time I'll ever hear of it.

I pluck up the courage and knock on her front door, Claudia engulfed me in one big hug and without a moment's hesitation, and I return the favor.

"Hey, beautiful," I said

She said she'll be going out to her dad and we were on our way.

Our hands were entwined as I walked her to the park nearby.

"Claudia, would you leave something you love to save thousands of lives?" I ask

Claudia pondered for a moment, standing on the bench as I held her hand from below.

"Yes," she said

I hug her; she was so kind, so beautiful

"What's wrong, Daniel?"

"I don't want to leave you," I said

She cups my face and looks at me with teary eyes.

"Do what you have to do, love," she says, not even knowing the whole story

She was too good for me.

I can't believe I have to leave the one thing I love the most.

I put my forehead on hers and just remember this moment; I don't want it to end.

"Goodbye," she whispers

I kiss her forehead one last time and said the words I despise, "Goodbye, Claudia."

I leave, not looking back because if I see her one more time, I don't even know if I have the strength to walk away for good.
