Audrey's p.o.v.
i woke up the next morning with red, puffy eyes. i rolled out of Luke's bed, and searched for my shoes. i slid on my turquoise vans, gather my things, and head for my car.
the trip back "home" was long, even though it was only about 5 minutes away.
the gate to the house comes into view and my hands start to shake, my whole body is shaking and clammy, as i approach the gate.
"excuse me, miss, you're not allowed here." the security guard stops me.
"what? i live here?" my eyes widen when i see boxes sitting by the entrance.
"the boxes belong to you, i will load them into your car and send you on your way." he makes his way to the boxes, loading them into the trunk, he loads the last one, and i stop him.
"wait, can i talk to emma? or gilinsky? yeah, gilinsky, can i talk to him?" he nods his head, walking to the gates, he presses some sort of button and speaks into it. moments later, a sleepy Gilinsky appears, shirtless and only wearing basketball shorts.
"what, Audrey. you shouldn't be here" he snaps, rubbing his eyes.
"Jack, please. it was a mistake." i plead, feeling the tears start to sting my eyes.
"no, emma warned you. Cameron doesn't want you here either. you're making it worse, you guys are over."
"Jack...i love him..." i trail off, realizing that now, I've lost everything. my friends, my house, my boyfriend. everything
"goodbye Audrey." he walks away, re-entering his home. the security guard tells me to leave, and i do as im told.
Hayes' p.o.v.
"good morning Hayes!" emma chirps as i enter the kitchen. emma and Gilinsky and in the kitchen, Emma's on the counter and Gilinskys back is towards her, but he stands in-between her legs.
"good morning, emma. morning Jack. i saw that you got an early start this morning." i hint, i saw him talking to someone at the gates,
I'm not sure who tho.
"Hayes, shut up." he mumbles.
"what is he talking about, Jack?" Jack turns around to face her, she looks at him as he looks down at his hands that are resting on her waist, he drops his head onto her shoulder and let's out a loud breath, then lifts his head once more.
"it was Audrey. she wanted to talk, she was going on and on about how it was a mistake and she didn't mean to, i told her you warned her and she was like "i love him" and i just said goodbye and walked back inside." he closed his eyes and put his head back on Emma's shoulder, wrapping his arms around her waist even tighter. i just sat and watched them, she laced her fingers in his hair and set her head on his, i watched as the tears came flowing down her face.
"emma, it's okay...she's not worth it. she cheated on Cam, you warned her, she didn't listen. we need to move on, we can't care anymore." i try to get her to stop crying, she lifts her head up a bit, looking into my eyes, her eyes are filled with hurt and anger.
"you don't get it do you?" she starts, her voice laced with venom, "she's all we have left...of Taylor. when i look at her, i see him. when she talks, i hear him. she is Taylor, she's a female version of Taylor. i can't shut her out, yeah i changed all the locks and shit, but i can't lose her, if i lose her, i lose Taylor." she finishes, Jack moved away from her, to look at her. he rests on the counters opposite of her, his face twisted with concern and hurt.
"emma, we lost Taylor when he died. there is no Taylor in her. you need to realize that. Taylor is gone! he's never coming back! no matter how many times you "see" him, he's not here! why can't you fucking move on!" the second the words left my mouth, i regretted them. "emma, i-" she jumps from the counter and pushes past me, grabbing her keys and shoes, walking out the door.
"are you fucking kidding right now Hayes?" Jack looks at me
"i didn't mean it, I'd never do that to her, it just hurts me too. i miss him too...she's not the only one hurting from this."
"whatever, I'm gonna go find her." he pushes off the counter past me, taking the same path emma did.
i turn to leave the kitchen, wiping my nose. "Hayes?" a soft voice stops me.
"Cameron..." his name comes out as a whisper, "how much did you hear?"
"all of it...why did you say that to her? don't you care about her?" his eyebrows furrow as he wets his lips a bit with his tongue.
"yeah, i don't know, i was just upset..." i run my fingers through my long hair, pulling at the ends. "I'll see ya later, Cam." i walk upstairs to shower for my date with Ellie later today.
Emma's p.o.v.
"Taylor is gone! he's never coming back! he's not here! why can't you fucking move on!" Hayes' words rang through my head as i drove to an unknown destination. the tears kept flowing, clouding my vision. i found myself at Jack and I's lake. i haven't been here for months, years even.
i park my car, and climb out. i let myself walk down the the bay, then to the dock, where Gilinsky asked me to be his girlfriend, where he told me he was moving in with me. i sit on the edge of the dock with my feet dangling over the edge, they graze the water now. i remember when i was littler they were a good 6 inches above the water. i lay my back against the wooden dock and just stare up at the sky, letting the tears soak my face and Hayes' word etch themselves into my brain, repeating over and over.
"emma. emma. hey, wake up babe" i am awaken by Jack shaking me. "hmm?" i roll over on to his lap "come on baby, let's go" he pulls me up, and walks me to my car. "I'll meet you back home and we'll talk, are you alright?" i look deep into his eyes, the smooth milky chocolate eyes I've loved since i was 16. i nod my head, placing a kiss on his lips, and getting in my car.
