Chapter 7: Backfire

HeDi

XiZe and I spent two hours playing five rounds of LOL at his place. With our team ending up at the losing end everytime... Making my friend so unhappy that he decided that we should just walk around to relieve us of the bad vibes before he picks up Jia.

We ended up strolling in the mall as we waited for Jia's message for him to pick her up. I was so uneasy the whole time... Distracted by thoughts of how my meeting with Shen Yue would turn out to be.

Tired of walking around, we decided to drop by a coffee shop to buy some refreshments. I was waiting for XiZe to finish paying at the counter... when I spotted her... Shen Yue with her friend JiaQi...in her signature tattered skinny jeans, oversized hoodie, white sneakers and round specs... Her hair  tied in braids framing her small face. ... making her look like a child.

And for the first time since I laid my eyes on her... I saw her smiling that blinding smile... that smile that reaches her eyes. How I wish I am at the receiving end of that smile.

"Hey Di!" XiZe gave me a light tap on my back stealing my attention as I took a sip from my iced americano... while we both made our way out of the shop. He must have noticed how pre-occupied I was that he followed my line of sight, surprised to see that his girl was just standing a few meters away from us...

"Oh there's Jia! Come on Di... looks like they're done shopping." he said as he made his way towards JiaQi who's busy chatting with Shen Yue and a tall guy who's flashing both of the girls his most dazzling smile.

Say that again!... A guy?!... What is a guy doing around Shen Yue?! I tried so hard to restrain myself from barging in on them and pulling that stupid girl away from that ridiculous guy... Chill HeDi... it's just a guy... a regular guy... with oversized dimples on his cheeks... He's nothing like you...

I slowly followed XiZe towards their direction... lazily studying the guy standing in front of Yue... Who does he think he is looking at Shen Yue like that?... all googly eyed... with that stupid dimpled smile on his idiotic face...

And what is that tiny girl doing??? She's not suppose to be returning that smile... I'm feeling realy pissed now... Why is she even smiling back at him? I better get to know this bastard who's being all chummy with my prospect.

"Oh XiZe! You're here!" Jia greeted XiZe excitedly... "Hey there HeDi!" she said acknowledging my presence. I immediately glanced at Yue... who's smile instantly disappeared upon my arrival as I stood side by side with this jerk she was smiling at a few seconds ago.

"Oh YiHao Ge... these are our friends Wu XiZe and Wang HeDi... you know them right?... Guys.. this is YiHao Ge... our senior " JiaQi introduced us... XiZe automatically extended his hands for a shake as Liu YiHao exchange pleasantries with my friend... while I was stealthily observing Shen Yue who is infront of me, while she is having a silent discussion with JiaQi as they talked in hushed whipers.

What are they talking about?

"This is HeDi my best friend..." I heard Xize introducing me... making me glance at the guy who's hand is extended towards me for a shake...Seriously annoyed by the current situation, I only gave him a quick once over and a quick nod of my head as my acknowledgement. Yeah... I know it's quite rude... but I am totally not happy with what's happening.. what can I do?!?

The guy gave me a curious, half amused expression... slowly withdrawing his hand... and stuffing it  inside his jeans pocket... his attention stolen by JiaQi who has something to say.

"YiHao Ge... we better go. Let's just catch up on campus. Yue and I will surely attend your exhibit next week. Is it okay if we bring another friend?" She said in her usual cheerful voice while handing out her shopping bags to XiZe who willingly took it from her.
