The cars outside my window drove passed me as I gave ten dollars to the taxi driver. He drove off after I gave him the destination I needed to go. I then stare down at the picture in my very hand. Mom, dad, Maddie, and I all hugging and smiling. I absolutely don't know why I came back. After all I've been through in the past, still haunted me til this very day.

Their smiles taunting me knowing how I saw their own horrible deaths with my bloodshot teary eyes. The person who sucked the living life out of each and every person whom I loved. Now they're gone. His red eyes piercing through my soul knowing he took away the greatest treasures in my life. Why did he not take my life too? Was it to teach me a lesson? What did I do to deserve this trauma.

I'm figuring out my answers, I guess that's why I'm back at my hometown, the worse place of them all. Filled with treacherous blood sucking demons and frightening wolves who walk this very town. However, hundreds of human are mixed in this town too, why can't they all leave before they get killed by those monsters?

That's why I left. I fled to the only place on this earth where I belong and feel safe in. At first I never wanted to go back, but in my gut, there was a little feeling of being homesick. My home in that town was most likely abandoned after the death of my family. I dreaded going back worried I might see them on the floor, still bleeding out ... lifeless. My tears brimmed at the corners of my eyes. My anxiety, am I ready to see it? I need to control myself but I-

"Miss, we've arrived at your destination." The kind elderly man smiled. I forced a smile and gave a sweet 'thank you' before stepping out on the wet cement. Still damp and foggy as I remembered. I grabbed my bags and watched the taxi disappear into the fog.

The air smelled like pine trees, my favorite, I used to love it here. My neighborhood still looked smilier the way I saw it 15 years ago. Each house was plain white, something simple. I turned around and saw my own house. Dark and broken.

The white paint was mostly peeled off. Green vines covered the garage and the sides of the house. The weeds on the porch were sprouted. Each window was broken and covered up with a wooden plank which was hammered down. The elegant car I used to ride in when I was a baby was torn down and turned into scrap metal. I cried too many tears throughout my 15 years gone, that no tears came out of my eyes.

I dragged my luggage up the porch and stared at my door. "I can do this. You know it Y/n. You've been waiting for this moment the past years, you're ready." Inhaling and exhaling deeply, I grabbed the door knob. The door was broken so I had to forcefully push it open. The wooden door loudly scraped the floor making a loud creaking sound. I pushed with all my might until the door swung open and I fell to the floor. I winced in pain. "At least I did it." You groaned standing back up.

Dusting off my shoulders, I was greeted by my old living room. Tiny specs of dust were flying everywhere where the sunlight shown. "It's the same." Reminiscing the memories as a child. The furniture all dull and old, it had never been touched since I left. Every step I made, the floor creaked. It soon became very annoying. I made my way to the kitchen. Exactly how I imagined. The same. I looked around the first floor making sure everything was similar. It was like I never left. Until I saw the stairs heading to the second floor.

Dust piles on each step, once you blew on the stairs, a big dusty pile flew up in the air corrupting your sight. You kept sneezing. "Okay, that was a bad idea." You took your first step. The steps felt hollow, like they were about to break any minute.

Once I made my way up, the first thing I saw was the last thing I wanted to see in my life. Blood. Scattered on the grayish walls. The dried blood became an old dark brown color, but you felt like gagging. Images spinning in my head. "I can't do this." My breathing became heavy. I need to get out of here. I ran down the stairs and headed to the front door. Once I felt the cool breeze, I cooled down. I sat on the porch bringing my knees in and resting my head between my hands.

My breathing became stable, I looked up and saw that it was dark, "How long have I've been out here?" You looked around until you saw an old lady across the street. Staring at you.

You jumped up and was scared, she was just staring like you were a ghost.

"Y/n?"

My eyes widened. Did she just call my name? You walked closer to her. She had her cane in one hand and a small bag of groceries in the other. She squinted her eyes to get a better vision of me. "Do you know me?" I said back to her. She gasped putting her hand over her mouth. "As I live and breathe, Y/n is that really you?" Her southern accent sounded familiar.

She jumped over the sidewalk and started speed walking towards me, I was still kind of scared because I don't remember her. This weird old lady was now in front of me, I stood still not knowing what she will do. But I felt her cold small hand on the side of my face. Her eyes got watery. "It is you!" She grabbed ahold of my arms and hugged me tightly. Damn as an old lady, she is strong as hell. "I used to be your babysitter, until you moved away!" Her smile faded, I was absolutely speechless. She looked behind me, looking at the hold house she used to be in taking care of me, she probably knew what happened to them.

"Here, stay with me for now, it's dangerous being outside this late knowing those leeches are running around the neighborhood." She gripped my wrist and dragged me to her house across the street. I looked back at my damaged house, but I can suddenly see red eyes that glowed through my bedroom window. I wanted to look closer, but it disappeared.

"Welcome back to Ephis, y/n."
