asher's pov:
it had now been around three weeks since we came back to school, and i had adjusted easily. i was sitting on the grass near the lake with sean, jace and morgan one sunday, when i decided to make a move on annie. you know, show her how i feel. indirectly of course.

"you know, i've been thinking that this is the year i want to tell annie how i feel." i said out of the blue.

"oh wow you're a whole new man." morgan said sarcastically ( if you get this i love you )

"i know right." i told her.
"and how exactly do you plan on telling annie that you like her?" jace asked me, looking up from the book he was reading.
"i don't know, a little bit of flirting maybe?" i said, making it sound like a question.

"whatever, the girl i wanted doesn't like me." sean said glumly.
"cheer up bro. there are plenty of fish in the sea." i said, using a muggle term.
"what the hell does that mean?" he asked me.
"it means that there are a bunch of other girls out there." i told him.

"i know how you can show annie you like her." jace said.
"oh really? go on." i said, skeptically. jace's idea of flirting was asking girls whether or not they knew about the endangered yellow bellied hinkypunk.

"well, during the triwizard tournament, a ball is always held. it's called the yule ball. you can ask her out then." he said, not looking up from his book.
"jace you're a genius!" i said, standing up.

"a ball? sounds lame." morgan said.
"yeah well i heard that dumbledore is inviting the weird sisters to perform." sean said glumly.
"awesome!" morgan said, jumping up and down as we went back up to the castle.

annie's pov
i was making my way to potions and i was five minutes early. i stood in line, waiting for the class to start. unfortunately we shared the class with the slytherins, so lauren was right in front of me.

she turned around, looked at me with disgust, and then turned back around.
i rolled my eyes. "you know what? i don't get your problem. i really don't."

"honey, i've got ninety-nine problems with you, starting with that hair." she said, and looked at my hair as if a bird pooped on it.

"wow how original, and you wish you had hair like me." i said.
she scoffed. we both glared at each other and took out our wands. i saw her friend, nessa, look scared.

just then the door to the classroom opened, and out came the snake that i hate: snape.

"what is going on?" he asked.
we both burst into explanations.
"quiet." he snapped.

"explain, miss williams." he nodded at lauren.
"thank you professor. annie started to come at me for no reason." she said. the audacity of this girl!

"i had a very good reason! you were looking at me like i was dragon dung!" i said.
"well, you do look-" she started, but i cut her off by casting an aguamenti charm and draining her with water. her shrieks echoed around the halls and the gryffindors all started to laugh.

"detention ms. leblanc!" snape snarled, and cast a charm to dry all the water off lauren.

"you can't do that!" a voice said. i turned around and saw asher, making his way to the front of the crowd. "lauren just called her dragon dung, it's not her fault that she wanted to stick up for herself!" asher said.

snape's thin mouth curled into a smile.
"looks like mr. angel will be joining you tonight, leblanc. fifty points from gryffindor. now sit down and take notes on this potion. it will help you in your O.W.L s. no doubt you'll be needing it, longbottom."

scowling, i sat on my seat. i looked back and saw asher sitting behind me. i smiled at him and mouthed, "thank you." he nodded, and started taking notes.

i was making my way to the trophy room. snape had told us to polish all the trophies there. without magic. but who said i followed the rules?

i opened the door to the trophy room. asher was already there, scrubbing away. i joined him.

"hey i'm sorry for getting you into this mess." i said.
"don't worry about it. i wasn't going to let her get away with that. no one messes with my gir- my best friend and gets away with it." he said.

"thanks asher." i said, feeling myself blush. wait, why am i blushing?

i shook my head and continued scrubbing.

"it feels like we haven't gotten to talk to each other since we got back here." he said.

"yea, it does doesn't it." i took out my wand, muttered, "scourgify" and sat cross legged. asher followed me. we began to talk about everything that happened since we started school.

"anyways, sean is still pretty upset over the whole lani thing." he said.
"maybe he should try talking to bella. she's really sweet." i said.
"i'll let him know." he said.

i forgot how nice it was to talk to asher again. i also forgot how cute he was.

but it's not like i like him or anything.

that would be stupid.

i mean, it would never even work out, haha.

yea.
