A week has passed since I was told to plan my funeral. The second hardest part about it was telling my mother. The pain she endured because of it. I am her only child and now she is going to lose me. But if any consolation she now has the grandkids I had to fill the coming void. The last person I told was Micheal being the one to take over for the foreseeable future.
He was distraught about the sudden news but he managed to keep his composure. We talked about what to do and thought the last thing to do was to make a press conference telling about this as it will define the future of our institution.
In it I stated that I was to die in the coming weeks and in the time I had left Micheal was the one to take charge. I made it clear that I intend to spend the last of my time with my family and kids. Questions were asked but the most common being the future of the corporation and if I intend to sell. To each I replied the same.
The corporation will be fine. It will be in well deserving hands. And perhaps even more so for time to come. And to make clear no it will not be sold, ever!
Afterwards I went straight home to avoid any lingering questions from the press. Or any company wanna be buyers. On my way however, I got a call from an unknown number. Interesting in knowing who got my contact information I answered. To my surprise it was Abélia on the other end.
"M-Marshall?" She asks hesitantly.
"Yes, this is me." I say to her staying focused on the road. "Pray tell how did you get my phone number?"
"Professor Bloodlust." Micheal.
"I see. Well I just say I am surprised I took your zero response yesterday as the answer to my question." I say lowly yet not judgemental.
"Yes about that. Initially I did intend to not tell her but...after seeing your press conference I realized that I can't do that. I don't want to risk her never knowing and her or me dying without the truth. So, I want to tell her I am her mother."
oOo
On the drive Abélia and I talked about how and when to tell her and decided on a fairly decent way. When I got home I went to Tink's room first. "Is my little girl in here?" I say looking in the doorway.
"Yes Dad I am right here." She says waving.
"Hmm where is she? I thought I could hear her voice. Oh well I guess I am going to the movies alone." I shrug and start to walk out before hearing frantic shuffling behind me. Just as I expected she ran out of the room in front of me.
"Movies?! Is it My Mistress of Evil? You know I want to watch that!" She says looking excited.
"Maaaaybe. Do you want to tag along?" I say looking at her.
"Do I want to---is the mitochondria the power house of the cell? Of course I do." Her happiness is amazing.
"Then get changed so we can go." Jumping up and down she rushes back into her room and changes while I head back downstairs to speak with Bell. She was on the couch reading when I stepped in front of her. "Bell can I ask tell you something?" She look up and nods. "I found out who Tink's mother is."
Slamming her book closed she puts on a face you'd see in a celebrity gossip show. "Speak and speak slowly." Leaning forward in an attempt to look more into the conversation.
"Ok so from the beginning." I explain the story of when I found Tink and the letter that came with her. I then explain my thoughts on the connection between the break in we had and Tink. It wasn't until I told her of my background check and look in on Abélia that she grew surprised beyond belief.
