"So where is your mother?" Wallace innocently asked.

The idiot was laying sprawled out on my father's office couch. I was still trying to read my book from one of the chairs in the reception area.

I flinched at his simple question. "It does not matter, and when do you plan on going back to Sootopolis anyway?" I hissed.

He shrugged "My master didn't give me a specified date on when to return. I feel like I should learn more from your father before I even think of going back to him" Wallace replied.

"Then shouldn't you start spending time with my father instead of bothering me?" I grumbled.

"Your right" he jumped up from the couch. "I'm sorry Steven, but from now on I shall take my master's advice and learn from your father" he waved to me and entered my father's office. "I shall return!" he said in his flamboyant manor.

I am free! I thought. If I knew it would be that easy I would have told him that sooner!

I snuck past my father's receptionist, slinked back home, grabbed my other five empty pokeballs, my bag, and went to my favorite place near home. Rusturf Tunnel, not only from here could I practice training my Beldum, but I could also sneaking in between towns without anyone noticing.

I had already battled the trainers on route one hundred sixteen so they did not pay much attention to me, mostly because I come here almost every few days. Some say hello to me, I usually wave back. The only people I try to tell where I am going is the men who work on the tunnel in the house closest to it. They worry about me being hurt while exploring, I have tried to convince them that with my beloved Beldum I can withstand the weak attacks of the pokemon in the area.

"Hey guys I am heading into the tunnel, do not worry I am fine!" I yelled into the house and shut the door before anyone could talk me out of this.

The tunnel was one of my father's suggestions to make the region more accessible. The tunnel was to connect the city of Rustboro to the town of Verdanturf. It was still under construction, which is why people would worry about me sneaking into it. I slipped under the do not enter sign, that someone decided to put up, and slinked into the unfinished tunnel.

"Beldum, let us show these pokemon that we are not ones to mess with!" I shouted to my pokemon.

"Bell Bell!"he shouted back.

I couldn't see anything, I grabbed my flashlight from my belt. "Beldum, use takedown on the massive boulder!" I ordered. With ease my partner did as I asked. The boulder came crashing down from the ceiling and shattered close to me. I had to jump back not to be caught in the debris, which caused smoke to rise in every direction. I covered my mouth with my arm. Once the smoke cleared, a carefully walked over to the pile of shattered rock. I pulled out my tiny dusting brush and began searching for any types of fossils.

I was almost finished with my pile when Beldum screamed "Bell Bell!"

"What's--" I paused as I turned around to face a large man. He wore dark brown clothing and a cowboy hat.

"You do realize the sign means no trespassing right!" the man scolded.

"I am sorry sir, I was only searching for fossils" I explained.

He sighed "I've never seen any kid who would seek into a construction site to look for fossils, your not normal kid are you?"

"I have never been normal sir, it is in my DNA not to be" I joked.

"So who are you anyway?" he questioned.

"I could ask you the same question" I paused debating giving my real name. I decided that saying Steven would not give away who my father is "My name is Steven"

"Ah so you are Steven. Your Mr.Stone's kid"

"Yes that is me, but please do not tell my father I was here. He would kill me for it" I begged.

"Broke the rules, probably defied your father, snuck into a construction site, all to look for fossils?" He laughed "And has a shiny Beldum? Kid I don't think you know this but I'm the first Hoenn region gym leader. Usually people challenge me, but I feel like mixing things up a bit! Steven Stone I challenge you to a pokemon battle!"
