The next day my father came back from his trip, which I learned that Juan had gone back. Wallace not so much, apparently my father had suggested that Wallace stay back and learn a few things from him about monetary policy or something like that. I personally think it was because my father wants me to make a new friend in the gym leaders apprentice.
My father had called my into his office first thing in the morning to reprimand me for yesterday's behavior. I stood in front of my father's desk, waiting for my punishment.
"Steven, I don't know what happened yesterday except that you did something to Wallace that ended in a bang. I thing he upset you and you flipped him, Juan doesn't know but I heard him threaten you, which means I also heard your response. Could you please try to play nice with my friends, it's the least you could due?" my father begged.
The least I could do since because of me you list your beloved wife, I thought.
"Yes father" my voice came out shaky.
"Steven, you know I love you right?" my father questioned.
"Yes sir"
"Steven" he stood up from his chair, I took this as a sigh that I should do the same. He hugged me "I love you" he lifted my head up to look him in the eyes "I know you blame yourself for our divorce, but it had nothing to do with you. Your mother and I have been moving apart for years. Please understand this"
What my father did not realize was that I had already stopped listening when he began hugging me. "Yes sir" I replied.
My father realized that I was beyond his reach right now and let me go. "Wallace is staying with us for the time being, Juan thinks I can teach him a thing or two. Please try to be nice to him. I know he is exuberant and a tad flamboyant, but he's a good kid. I think if you gave him a chance you two could become good friends. Please try, for me?" my father begged.
"Whatever" I replied and left his office. "Play nice with the new kid, do not do anything to harm anyone, you are not the one at fault. Yeah right father, I know a lie when I hear one!" I muttered.
"What did your father lie about?" Wallace questioned from the small couch where I usually would sit. He was sitting there looking at the book I had left yesterday.
"For one why are you here, second why do you have my book? Third why are you looking at it, and fourth why are you here?"
"First your father said I could stay here, second you left it yesterday when you stormed off. Third because it's interesting that you have the same hobby as---" I put my hand over his mouth to shut him up.
Which he then decided to lick my hand. I shuddered and pulled away from him. "What the heck is wrong with you!" I spat.
He shrugged "Nothing to my knowledge, you I think have mental problems" he jumped off the couch. "Come on I want to train today and I want someone to watch!" he yelled.
He grabbed my arm and dragged me from the building back to the place he pissed me off yesterday.
"I want to practice my contest appeal and I'm thinking that I'll do better if I have someone watching me" Wallace explained.
"What exactly is your contest appeal anyway?" I questioned.
"Well you see, there is a difference between contest battling and normal battling. You see in contests it's more about the beauty of a move more that the stats of a move."
I nodded in agreement, even though nothing he was explaining made any sense to me. He smirked "You have no clue what I'm talking about do you?"
How does he read me like that? "I completely understand" I scratched my head "Until the whole contests are different than normal battles."
