"Hey Jesse, do you want to come over after school?" Seven year old Beca asked.
"That'd be so cool!" Jesse said excitedly. "We could totally play board games and watch movies."
"I love movies!" Beca said happily. "We should totally invite Stacie. Oh and Fat Amy, Emily, and Benji!"
"Yeah this is gonna be so fun." Jesse said giving her a high five. "Hey guys, do you want to have a play date with me and Beca after school?"
"Is that even a question?" Stacie said linking arms with Beca.
"I'm down too." Amy said while eating a cookie.
"I'm going if Emily's going." Benji said while taking the said girls hand. Benji and Emily were the so called power couple of elementary school.
"Great! Meet me up front after school then." Beca said happily.
After school the six friends meet up in the front. They all walked over to Becas house talking about the latest cartoons and other nonsense. Once they arrived the walked into the house.
"Mom I'm home!" Beca called through the house.
Becas mother came down the stairs with a scowl. She gave a sweet smile once she saw that Beca had brought her friends over.
"Hey sweetie." Her mother said in a such a sweet tone it was bitter. "Can you please send your friends home I need to talk to you."
"Okay!" Beca said happily. "You guys need to go home my mom wants to talk to me. We should really do it some other time though."
"Wait Beca are you in trouble?" Jesse said worriedly.
     "No way!" Beca said confidently.
"How can you be so sure?" Stacie asked with an equally worried tone.
"Because my mom loves me." Beca said simply. "She wouldn't do anything to hurt me."
"Okay, see you tomorrow." Emily said waving.
"Okay, bye!" Beca turned around and was met with an angry looking mother. "What's wrong?"
"You're father walked out on us and it's all you're fault!" Her mother said with venom in her voice.
"Why is it my fault?" Beca asked in a small tone as her mother took off her belt.
"Because it obviously isn't mine." Her mom said striking her once.
Beca let out a yelp in pain before she was hit again. She wasn't able to speak up for herself. She had never felt more pain than in that very moment. The only thing that could be heard were Beca crying for help and a movie in the background. Soon everything was quite. Everything went black. The beating went on for about ten minutes but for Beca it felt like hours. Once her mother stopped she grabbed her keys and drove away leaving Beca helpless.
Soon Beca woke up after passing out from the pain. She said slowly got up and walked to her room. She sat at the edge of the bed and just stared at the wall. She felt so empty. Her reality got destroyed in a mater of minutes. She had a happy family with a mom and a dad. Now suddenly she only has a mom who doesn't even love her. She felt so alone. She then heard a noise coming from downstairs. She went halfway down the steps to see a very drunk mother. This went on for several years. After school she would often get beat then her mother would go out drinking. At first her mother would come home alone but as she got older she would start bringing guys home.
She was now entering her freshman year of high school. A lot about her has changed. She used to wear bright colors and dresses but now she wears black and most of the time she wears pants and log sleeves to hide the scars and bruises. She used to smile a lot but she doesn't anymore. But one place where she could escape her terrible reality was music. She started making mixes and singing this leading to her want to do it professionally. One thing that has never changed as much as she tried is her friends. As hard as she tries she can't push them away.
"Hey Becaw!" Jesse yelled across the hall. "You ready for freshman year?"
"No." Beca said simply grabbing her books. "And how many times do I have to tell you to not call me that."
"Sorry old habits are hard to break right?" Jesse said light heartedly.
     "I guess." Beca said casually.
"Hey guys, what's up?" Emily said as she approached the two.
"Nothing really." Beca said easily. "Where's Benji I thought he would be with you."
"I thought he was." Emily said looking around. "Oh there he is. Benji!"
"Hey, Sorry about that I thought I saw Stacie." Benji said while taking Emily's hand. Yes they are still together and going strong.
     "Sup babes." Stacie said.
A few things that have changed in the group are that Stacie went from a small scraggly little girl to well a supermodel. Benji got into close up magic and Jesse got supper into scoring movies. He always tries to get Beca to watch them with him like they used to but Beca no longer likes movies. She used to but ever since what happened she can't because her mother used to love them.
The school day went slowly and after Beca went home to the same old thing. She got used to the pain after about a year. And after two she learned how to deal with a drunken or hungover mother. She matured way to young. But dealing with this for so many years made her tired of it. Once her mom left she just ran. She didn't know where she was running to but she kept on running. She eventually came up to a bridge. She climbed up on the edge of the bridge and looked down. She was really going to do it.
"Hey!" She heard a voice in the distance. She looked up from the water to see a redhead around her age come running towards her. "Hey stop!"
She looked like an angel. She had flawless skin. She had long red hair that was in loose curls. She also had bright blue eyes filled with worry.
"Why do you care." Beca said bitterly. "You don't even know me."
"So? If you jump I won't get the chance to know you." The girl said in a surprising calm tone. "So can you please get down?"
"No. I can't go on like this." Beca said with tears in her eyes.
"Go on like what?" The girl asked.
"Nothing it's not important." Beca said nonchalantly. "I don't want to bug you with my problems."
"Come on I'm a great listener." The redhead said with a small smile. "I'm sure I might be able to help."
"No you won't." Beca said sadly. "No one can help me this is the only option."
"No it isn't." The girl said. "Please don't jump."
"Just stop caring and leave me alone." Beca said coldly.
There was silence so Beca thought she'd finally gotten rid of the annoying redhead. That is until the read head spoke up again.
"If you jump I jump." Beca looked over to see the girl standing in the bridge.
"Hey get down." Beca said in a slightly concerned manner. "You could get hurt."
"I could tell you the same thing." The girl said calmly.
"Yeah well that's kinda the point." Beca said. "Now get lost so my last moments in this cruel world are in silence."
"What makes it so cruel?" The girl asked.
"My mom." Beca said sadly. "She... she hates me."
"What makes you say that?" She asked carefully.
"She tells me everyday..." Beca said. "After school she yells it when she hits me over and over."
"That's awful." The redhead said with shock.
"Then she goes out and gets drunk then comes back with some stranger to have sex with." Beca said with empty eyes. "Then she sends the dude away and hits me more. She falls asleep soon after though."
"Why haven't you told anyone about this?" She asked with concern
"Well I don't really open up to people." Beca said awkwardly.
"Well guess what?" The girl asked innocently. "You just did."
After that the two girls talked about anything and everything. They walked around the park and somehow ended up in front of her house.
"Hey this is my place." Beca said with a hint of sadness.
"Oh well it was really nice meeting you Beca." The redhead said.
"Yeah you too..." Beca said trailing off once she looked to where the redhead was once standing.
She was gone. It was almost like she disappeared. Beca didn't get anything about her. She never got her name or her number. Most of the time they talked about Beca. She slowly walked inside to see her mother passed out on the couch. She grabbed a blanket and draped it over her. She went you to her room and turned on some music and silently sang along. The redhead told her to go after her dream of becoming a singer so that exactly what she will do. But as hard as she tried she couldn't get her off of her mind. Then a realization hit her. She never told the girl her name so how did she know it?
