It's been weeks. The voices are never quite. Normally they only talk occasionally but now they're always talking. Sadly it's become a habit for Beca to cut herself. She's honestly tired of hearing the voices. She just wants everything to be quite and calm for once . No pain. No sadness. No nothing. So she's decided she's had enough. She's doing one last show.
"You ready for tonight's show?" Jesse asked as he did her hair.
"Yeah." Beca said in a similar matter as she would during high school. "It's gonna be a great show."
"Hey are you okay? You seem kinda down lately?" Jesse asked as he was putting the finishing touches on her hair.
"Yeah... I'm fine." I say as I scroll through my phone. "Well I need to be on stage in about ten so are you done?"
"Yup. I just need to add a bit of hairspray." He said grabbing the can.
"Alright Bec it's time to get you on stage." Chicago who I made head of security said.
"Awesome." I say standing up from my vanity. "Let's put on a great show!"
We walked down to the stage. The staff quickly handed me a microphone before I got hugs from all of my friends. This was just the routine.
"Hello everyone!" I yell with a giant smile and a wave. "Today is going to be a very special show."
The crowd erupted. Normally when she says it's going to be special this mean there are elaborate dance numbers songs with her friends and she'll even let the crowd ask questions and suggest songs. Her friends gave her curious looks. They weren't warned about it being special.
"Alright let's get this party started!" Beca yelled.
"She decided to start off strong. She immediately jumped into The wind beneath my wings then she moved into Caught in the storm. Her friends have never seen two powerful songs one after another. This also wasn't the lineup that she originally planned. She was pulling out the big guns. She then sang For the love of a daughter which she'd never sang on stage before. She would normally get to emotional. Her friends where so surprised. Stacie was looking at her with furrowed eyebrows. She wasn't sure if her friend was okay. Beca then sang a more upbeat song king of anything to help balance it out. The crowd was loving the lineup and were screaming Like crazy. She then got a little more serious and sat at the edge of the stage as she sang her least two songs. One was Before you go and the last song was When I'm gone. She's never sang this song before. It was new to the crowd and her friends. She's never sang it before.
"I'm so sorry but that's all I have for you today." Beca said with a sad smile through the microphone. "Thank you so much for being an amazing crowd. You're all perfect and amazing. I want to leave you all with something. The dark is loud. It may even be louder than the light. But light is brighter. Brighter than anything. Brighter than the darkness. You just need to open your eyes to see it. People will try and tell us how we should live our life or who we are. This can make us blind. Blind to the truth... the light. But all we have to do is open our eyes and allow ourselves to see it. Goodbye."
If there is always one consistent thing that Beca does every show is the goodbye. She always says she'll see them at the next show. It's always been the line. almost like a promise. Her friends thought nothing of it and did there normal routine after there show.
"Great show Beca." Jesse said with a smile. "All of those songs were really powerful."
"Thanks Jess." Beca said finishing off her water bottle. "Well I'm pretty beat so I think I'm gonna head out."
She made them promise before the show that she can have a night alone. She gave all of them long hugs and there own goodbyes. After all it was the last one they were going to get. Beca didn't even take her phone she just walked out. She got in her car and drove. She was staying in a tall building. Perfect. She took the elevator up to the roof. Beca looked around to see if she was alone. Much to her delight she was. She slipped off her shoes. Undid her hair. Jumped up onto the edge. Took a deep breath and...
"Wait! Beca Wait!" She heard the redhead scream slightly out of breath. "Don't jump."
"Oh my god of course you're here right now." Beca said with annoyance in every word.
"Yeah I know, I'm terrible for stopping you." She said still catching her breath.
"Why are you so out of breath?" Beca questioned.
"I had to take the stairs. I don't have a card to use the elevator." She said gesturing to the metal doors behind her. "Now please get down so we can talk."
"That's all you ever do!" Beca snapped. "We always talk about me and how shitty my life is! We never talk about you. For god sakes I don't even know your name! You're heaven sent yet you're waisting you time on me."
"You have no idea." The redhead muttered under her breath. "I'm not waisting my time on you. I really, really like you. And I know a group of amazing people who love you."
"You don't even know my friends. You don't know what it felt like to see all there sad gazes when they found out about my mom. You don't know how it feels to always be treated so fragile by everyone except for one person." Beca said in the brink of tears. "Even if she treated me like shit."
"You want to be treated like shit?" The redhead asked raising her eyebrows earning a nod. "Fine I'll treat you like shit. Go ahead jump. I honestly don't care about you. You're just an assignment. No one will miss you when you're gone."
Beca looked down sadly. When her mother said these things she believed every word. For some reason when the redhead was saying them she could hear the lie. She knew it wasn't true. This feeling was all so new. Her friends tell her they love her constantly she only half's believes them. But with the redhead it's just... different.
"You can tell it's a lie can't you." The redhead said after a moment a silence. "I'm about to drop a truth Bomb on you. You are loved dearly by everyone who's meet you. Including me. If you jump you're not going to end the sadness you're just going to pass it onto someone else. Imagine how you feel but ten times worse. They will all have the thoughts of 'what ifs' or 'I should've known'. Imagine someone like Emily or Stacie feeling that way. You don't want that."
Beca believed every word. She knew deep down it was true. She slowly stepped away from the edge. One she was a good foot away from the edge she just broke. She cried. All of the tears she never shed during beatings came over her. All of the loneliness she's tried to push away came crashing down. But they weren't all tears of sadness. The emptiness she's felt for years disappeared. All of the hurt was lifted. She's never felt this light her entire life. She just cried all of the terribleness away. She soon felt soft arms wrap around her and a soft kiss on top of her head.
"Looks like you don't need me anymore." The redhead said quietly. "Everything is as it should've been. Goodbye Beca."
The girl pulled away and left. Beca was stunned. She felt so light. So free. So... happy. She didn't know what to do with herself. The redhead had left. Just disappeared. She slowly stood and walked to her car. She got in and turned it on. She made the rash decision to buy gifts for all of her friends. They've done so much for her threw all of these years. She was stopped at a red light smiling just for the hell of it. The light soon turned green so she advanced. Suddenly there was glass everywhere. She was hit. A drunk driver hit her. Soon enough everything was black then white.
"Wow not even fifteen minutes of being happy and free you die." Beca snapped her head towards the voice. There she was. The redhead dressed in white. "I was hoping to have my wings before you got here."
"I'm sorry but what's happening?" Beca asked looking down to see she also was wearing pure white.
"Well you got assigned to angle. We can work together now." She said with a faint smile. "Oh by the way my names Chloe, Chloe Beale."
Beca slowly took the redhead which she know knows as Chloe's extended hand. She was still very confused but hey, she knew her name now.
"What do you mean angle?" Beca asked furrowing her brows.
"Oh right! Sorry I'm new at this. You died." Chloe said rather plainly. "Once you die you come to the after life. Now depending on how you lived your life on earth you get assigned a different job. The worst job is in the conversion room. You are ether doing the converting or your the one being helped. The best job and the one that comes with the most honor is guardian angle. You see me and you are angles. We only get our full title once we get our wings."
"Okay... so you were my guardian angle. You were literally heaven sent. That's how you knew so much about me and my friends." Beca said as she started to connect the dots.
"You were actually my first assignment." Chloe said never loosing her smile. "You were quite difficult. You weren't supposed to have one so that's why they had to sent an angle and not a guardian. I wasn't fully trained."
"What do you mean not supposed to have one? I thought everyone had one." Beca said still perplexed by the matter.
"Nope." Chloe said popping the p. "You were supposed to have a very happy childhood. Sadly your fathers angle got corrupted and convinced him to walk out on you and your mother. So most of your life wasn't meant to happen."
"Well that's always lovely to hear." Beca said sarcastically. "Are you going to get you're wings soon?"
"I'm not sure. I have a wing judgement in a few minutes. You can come if you want." Chloe said happily. "You still need to meet Clay, who's my older brother and Donovan, who's head angle."
"Umm Okay." Beca said with a slight nod.
Chloe let out an excited squeal before grabbing Becas hand and leading her the the white court room. The doors opened and in the center was who she assumed to be Donovan and to his left Clay.
"You did well." Donovan said. "I think it's safe to say you've earned this."
He grabbed a bell and gave it a ring. Suddenly a bright light was coming from Chloe's back. Somehow her smile became wider as she jumped up and down. Soon enough there was a pair of beautiful wings. Beca smiled for Chloe. Before she knew it Chloe turned to her.
"I really like you and now you're dead so... can I kiss you?" Chloe asked timidly.
"You do know I've been like obsessed with you since freshman year right?" Beca asked smiling.
Chloe giggled before moving to connect there lips. Right when they were about to touch she was back. Seven years old under her mother's belt for the very. First. Time. It was all a dream. A figment of her imagination. None of it happened. This is her reality. There is no escape. All she can do is hope. Hope for brighter days. Hope for her redheaded angel. The one who was sent from heaven just for her.The End
