Swimming Lessons
"It's okay, Rokunda," you hear Jaehyun's melodic voice reassure the young boy when you walk out of your cabin, about to begin your walk to Seong Su's. "I'll be right there, I'll help you if you need it. I doubt you will, though," he ruffled the younger's fluffy hair with a reassuring smile.
"Going swimming today, I'm guessing?" You ask, noticing how the group in front of you were dressed in bathing suits.
Jaehyun returns an affirmative nod. "I wanna teach them how to swim or give them more tips to gain confidence."
"I think that'll be fun," you smile. "Have f-" your voice was cut off by a cheery voice.
"Unfortunately Seong Su won't be able to be swimming soon because of his toe injury," it dripped with artificial empathy.
There was Jinsoul, Seong Su holding onto her arm.
"Y/n, you should come along with us," Jaehyun pipes up. "It'll be good for you to get some fresh air."
"I was planning to look after Seong Su today, but it looks like he's already in good hands," you send the kindest smile you can muster to the tall girl.
"Oh, you can totally take him! I'll help Jaehyun teach the kids to swim," she sends a sweet smile in Jaehyun's way.
"Whatever you want, Y/n," Jaehyun keeps his eyes locked with yours, letting you choose how you'd like to spend the day.
"I think I owe Seong Su a few days of undivided attention," you walk over to the ponytailed female, taking the mentioned boy out of her arms into your own. "We'll do whatever you want today, okay?"
He nods, looking up at you with his signature round doe eyes.
"Well..." Jaehyun takes a pause. "Have fun today, you too Seong Su. Be nice too noona."
"Of course I will! I love noona," he giggles, causing you to smile.
"I love you too," you say, taking his hand to wave at the others before turning on your heel. "What should we do today?" You ask.
"Play games!"
"Like what?"
"Go fishie!" He said, eyes brightening at the thought of playing what you assumed was his favorite game.
"Go fishie?" You ask, beaming as you open the door of the indoor common area. "Go fishie is fun."
An enthusiastic nod is what you're given in return. You open the cabinet doors, faced with stacks on stacks of cards, board games, and other toys. Seong Su's chubby arm reaches out to grab a heap of blue cards.
Upon returning to an unoccupied table, a couple of young girls approached the two of you.
"Can we join the game?" One asks softly.
You smile brightly. "Of course."
They leave after a couple of rounds, leaving you and Seong Su alone. You're thankful that the boy is painfully oblivious to nearly everything surrounding him. Deep in thought, as he shuffles the cards messily, you wonder why Jaehyun would ever return your feelings. You must be an idiot to think you'd ever have a chance. There are beautiful girls like Jinsoul, he'd have to be the biggest idiot in the world to choose you, a mediocre girl, over a modelesque girl.
Your thoughts are abruptly halted by Soojin and Jennie approaching your table.
"Seong Su, I found a game I think you'd like to play!" Soojin exclaims. "Let's go play it."
Seong Su smiles while nodding excitedly, reaching his arms out, prompting Soojin to take him away in her arms.
Jennie sits across from you. "I know exactly what you're thinking and I hate it," she takes a chug from the pop can in her hand. "I don't know what's up with that blonde bimbo but she's seriously getting on my nerves."
"Jennie! There are kids here," you whisper scream at the older girl.
"Not close enough to hear me," she juts her head to the nearest kids, a few tables away.
"Whatever, can we talk about this in the cabin?"
"Fine."
You're back in the cabin you recently upgraded to be homier. Jennie shuts the door behind her back, wasting no time to get back at the topic she wanted to discuss. "I know you're upset because she keeps flirting with Jaehyun."
"I'm not jealous! Don't make me seem like a petty bitch," you grumble in defense. "I have no reason to be jealous anyway."
She looks at you with a straight expression. "Y/n, if you think I don't know how in love you are with Jaehyun, you really take me for the biggest dumbass," she deadpans.
You sigh deeply, shoving your face into your pillow. "I don't want to talk about this."
"Y/n," her voice suddenly turns soft. "You know I'm not mad at you. I want you to be happy, and that's why I'm upset right now. And it's not at you, it's at her."
"I don't own him," you mumble, staring at the ceiling. "He can date whoever he wants. Why wouldn't he want her if he could get her?"
A small smile graces her lips. "Maybe because he hasn't spent his literal whole life with her. Maybe because he doesn't know her as he knows you-" you knew she could continue forever. She would've, too, if it weren't for the soft huff of tears you let out. She comes over to you, wiping under your eyes. "Y/n, I really don't mean to upset you at all. It's just that I've stayed quiet about this for years and now I'm scared for you. I can tell how mean you're being to yourself."
"She's so much prettier than me. She's like a literal model."
"Y/ln Y/n, you are absolutely gorgeous. You're obviously blind because damn. I know you have insecurities, but someday I hope you can recognize how truly outstanding you are."
You shrug, another tear slipping for your wet eyes. "You don't have to assure me like I'm a dumb kid."
"I'm reassuring you like you're my best friend, which you are."
You sigh. "Thanks, Jen. I just... need time to adjust to this I guess."
"If she gets any worse, I swear I'm talking to Junmyeon and she can get out. We're here to have a good summer with sweet kids like Seong Su. Not deal with a possessive bitch."
You giggle at her, lightly hitting her shoulder, prompting her to engage in laughing with you.
At 8 pm, you're finishing up in the kitchen. Tying up the trash bag, you open the back door to throw it away, but you were met face-to-face with the boy you've been thinking about for the majority of the day. He wasn't alone, though, the rest of the kids standing with him.
"Jaehyun! What's going on?" You jump, clutching onto the heavy bag.
"I forgot my keys and remembered you had closing tonight, so I thought you could sneak us back in."
You roll your eyes, opening the door wide for the group. "You seriously need to keep better track of your things," you scold as you throw the bag into the dumpster.
"Yes, mom," he returns, ushering the kids to exit, the room being for staff only.
"Anyway, did you have fun?" You ask, locking the door back up.
"It was good. They're a little nervous yet, but they've all improved a lot in just one day."
You smile. "That's good, now let's get out of here," you pull him by the wet white sleeve covering his top half.
He runs his fingers through his wet hair, going out of his way to splash some of the drops onto you.
"You're such a dick," you whine, wiping the salty liquid off of your arm. He lets out a hearty laugh, slinging his muscular arm over your shoulder.
"And you're such a cutie," he reaches down to pinch your cheek before running off, not letting you react in his presence.
