Where Isak met Even

Chapter 8

For the next few days I slept in a motel. Dad's money came in handy after all. I didn't go to school the whole week, and I ignored all the texts from the boys asking me where I was. I can't believe I had hurt Even like that. Especially after his girlfriend broke up with him because of him being bi. I knew I had made a mistake. All I could hope for now was that he would read the sticky note I stuck by the door. 

It was 7pm on a Saturday and I was all out of food. I got dressed. I grabbed my phone and credit card, then headed out. On the bus ride to the grocery store, I decided to answer the boy's texts. I went through the texts one by one. 'Bro are you ok? Where are you' From Jonas 'Why you skipping school? Is there a party I don't know about?!' From Magnus 'Do you need copies of the homework?' From Mahdi. I just answered them all with 'All good.' 

That's when I noticed a text I didn't see before. It was from Even! 'Hey Isak. I saw your sticky note. I'm so sorry. I'm just really defensive with that. I heard Jonas, Magnus and Mahdi talking about something about you. I think that is what you were going to tell me.. Meet me at the bench at 1 am tonight. Hope you're ok.' Oh no.. That text was from 2 days ago. I missed my only opportunity straighten things out with him. The bus stopped beside the grocery store. I got off the bus, but didn't go inside. I walked around the same spot in circles. Where should I go? Should I talk to Even? 

I headed to Even's apartment. I knocked on the door, but it wasn't Even who opened it, it was Sonja. My heart sank and she chuckled a little. She stopped smiling when she saw how upset I was. "I'm sorry Isak." she said and closed the door. I just stood there for a second, lost in my thoughts. When I finally got the strength to leave, I ran out. It was almost winter, so it was dark out even if it was only about 9:30 pm. I just ran. I ran far away, with tear filled eyes. I stopped at the bench where Even and I had met up before, and I sat down.
