Where Isak met Even

Chapter 9

I woke up alone in Even's bed. I had fallen asleep on the bench last night. Even happened to come to smoke and he saw me. I remember not saying anything to him, and him not saying anything to me. I just remember falling asleep on his bed. 

I went out of the bedroom. Even stood up from the couch right away. He looked worried for me. I didn't know how to thank him. I didn't say a word. I just went up to him and kissed him out of the blue. Just unexpected. He smiled and kissed me back. I remembered Sonja and stepped back. "I'm sorry- I forgot about Sonja" I said apologetically. "What about her" he took a step in my direction. "Aren't you guys back together?", "What?", he was more shocked than he needed to be, "Why would you think that?" Now I was confused too. "Because yesterday I came here to talk to you, then Sonja opened the door.." He shook his head. "She told me it was just advertising people who knocked..", "But why was she here anyway?", "She was getting her sweater. She forgot it here when we were still together. I told her I could drop it off at her place but she just barged in"  he looked at me. I chuckled. It was all kind of funny. It was just misunderstanding after misunderstanding. He laughed too. "Why are you laughing?" he asked. "No reason" I answered almost bursting into laughter. "It's nice to see you smile anyway" Even said. I blushed.

It was Monday morning. Like always I woke up in Even's bed, but this time he was sleeping on the other side. I got ready for school, quietly so I wouldn't wake him. When there was less than 20 minutes till the bus left I woke him up. "Even. We have school soon.." He got up and got dressed. Only half awake though. We made the bus just barely. The bus stopped at all the stops possible today, so I knew we were going to be late. Even though we were kind of a couple now, we still didn't really talk on the bus. Until he said something. "Isak.. You know how I wasn't at school the first week you started, and how I took a 'free year'?" He looked upset. I held his hand so he knew he didn't have anything to worry about. "Yes?" he didn't answer right away. "I was in rehab, and the week you came to school I was there for my last check, up for a week, to make sure everything was good again." he looked ashamed. I didn't know what to say. My hand was still in his, but I didn't want to say anything insensitive or hurtful. "Did you pass your last test?" I asked hopefully. "Yeah, of course. I haven't drank since I was in rehab for a full year." he looked in my eyes, "I kind of lost the desire to drink.." he added. I kissed him quickly. "Good" I said and he smiled.

Then I remembered I had asked him to buy me beer... "Even. I'm so sorry. If I had known I- I  would've never asked you to buy me beer"  he smiled at me, "but if you hadn't asked me to buy you beer who knows if we'd be together today." he replied softly. I laid my head on his shoulder.

When we arrived at school we walked separate ways, because of different classes. At lunch I walked up to the boys. "Bro where have you been?" Jonas asked. Magnus and Mahdi just looked at me waiting for an answer. I sat down on their table and started explaining everything. Everything from my mom, to 1 am, to Even.. Jonas and Mahdi smirked at me when I mentioned Even. Magnus didn't. He looked kind of mad.. Did I just imagine that they had been happy when I came out? "You got a boyfriend before I got a girlfriend?" he then asked and pouted, "Not fair!"     I laughed at him. 

The girl gang popped up in front of us when we had 10 minutes left of lunch. "Hey Jonas.." Eva said, smirking. Magnus looked at Eva and raised his eyebrows, when Eva shot him a look. "Sup Isak" Chris said, and winked at me. I blushed and looked down. "So I was wondering", she continued, "would you maybe want to go out sometime?" Magnus, Mahdi, and Jonas burst into laughter. Chris looked upset and surprised. "Why are you laughing at her?" Vilde asked crossing her arms. "Is it that weird that a girl is asking a guy out?" Noora said narrowing her eyes. "Don't worry Chris", Sana said, "They're all losers..". Jeez. If looks could kill. "Nono it's not that" I said laughing too, "I'm just kind of seeing someone at the moment.." Chris's eyes widened, "WHO IS SHE" she asked like she was going out for blood. The boys stopped laughing, I think they were kind of scared, which made the girls laugh. I had to stop the madness, "She is a he.. Thank you for the offer Chris though. I'm sure we can be friends." I said smiling at her. She looked humiliated, but she shouldn't have been. She was really brave for asking me out. "Yeah sure." she said sarcastically and walked away angrily. Vilde and Sana followed to comfort her. Noora left to get some food. Eva said something before leaving, "See you tonight then Jonas." she winked. We all looked shocked at Jonas. "Congrats man" Mahdi said while high fiving him. "I actually really like her" Jonas said blushing. "Congrats bro" I said. Magnus just looked jealous, "does she have a sister?" he asked and we laughed.
