Zoey's POV

Today at the hospital was work as usual, except that we had a new patient with a sprained ankle from a bicycle accident, a little boy about 6 years old so I had to be there to comfort him before his momma arrived.

Glad that's all over because I am currently at my next workplace, the bookstore. The bookstore is owned by Mr Greene, he is about 60 years old, so he is hardly around and we haven't sold much compared to his youthful years, so he more or less gave up on it. He put me here to manage this place, not like he needs the money though. I sense that he pitied me and gave me the job, well I'm glad he did anyways.

My thoughts was however disturbed when a man in black suit walks in with a little girl. I wonder what the relationship is; maybe his baby sister, cousin or something; he has a charming smile though.

"Quit thinking Zoey; and say something" I mentally facepalmed myself.

"Good afternoon, welcome to Greene's bookstore, how can I help you" I managed to say, pretending to be unaffected by his good looks. It was after these words he finally looked at me to respond,

"Hi, we--" he started but was interrupted when the girl ran towards the books at the other end
"Alexa! - Urghh I'm so sorry"

"Nah it's fine, it's allowed in here" I assured him.

"I'm Levi" he reached out for a handshake

"I'm Zoey, nice to meet you" I hesitantly took his hand, "I see you're here to get a book for your --"

"Daddy! Daddy!! Come take a look" The Little girl ran towards us

Daddy? You were fantasizing about a married man you idiot - my subconscious stated.
Alexa is this what you want? he reached out to collect the book, it was a Cinderella story.

"Yes"

"That's a really nice book cutie, I'm sure mummy would love to read this to you every night" I smiled as she looked up to me with a smile.

"I don't have a mummy" she said nonchalantly.

Wait what?

I looked up to Levi and I saw his face, he looked pale. Oh shit! Damn you stupid mouth, you did it again. I mentally facepalmed myself again;

"I-- uhhh-- am sorry, I didn't mean to-" I tried to apologise, "it's fine he said.

"What's your name?" The little girl asked

"Zoey, what's yours?" I asked looking from her to her father

"Alexa, by the way you have a lovely smile" she said and I giggled and glanced at Levi, he was still tensed.

"Thanks, you--" I was interrupted when Levi's phone began to ring. He stepped away to answer his call but could still see Alexa

"I love your hair and eyes, it reminds me of--" Alexa continued but I zoned out, I wonder what happened to his wife. It must have been a painful experience seeing how pale he went when I mentioned her.

My thoughts were interrupted when Levi said "Alright Alexa, it's time to go home. Say goodbye to Zoey" he said with a serious look, and paid for Zoey's book.

"Goodbye Zoey, remember what I said about Mr Turtle", wait Mr What now?

"Yeah... be safe cutie" I said as I pecked her cheeks. She giggled and walked out of the store with Levi.

5:50pm

I am finally at my last job for the day, the great Anna Baker's restaurant. This is my most paid job. I get a higher pay check here along side tips left by customers than what I get from the hospital and bookstore together. Most times, I count myself lucky to work here. Aside Madam Anna Baker's bitchy attitude, I can cope with the rest of the job. I have amazing co-workers and friends who I seek help from if I'm having issues with any table.

Today's work went smoothly, mainly because Miss Anna wasn't breathing on our necks, she has been in her office since I came for my shift, seems like she got heartbroken or something. Anyways, good for us.

Finally work is over, I decided to work home, about 4 miles from the restaurant, but I still don't mind. If I could save the transport fare for something more important, then walking it is.

I walked through the lonely streets, thankful that I brought a jacket along wearing it over the clothes I changed into from my working uniform because there was a drop in temperature and it's cold. I was lost in thoughts till I heard a honk and a car pulled over by my side.

"Hey, come in let me drop you off" I heard from the car that came to a stop beside me. The voice was a bit familiar, so I looked and...

It's the guy from this afternoon, what's his name again?

"Oh Levi"
