Chapter Fifteen: Hello

Quick question: How do you do? How are you?

Zoey POV

It's been two weeks since I heard from Levi, and honestly I've been really worried, a part of me thinks something's wrong and the other part thinks he's probably ignoring me, but I choose not to believe the latter.

I picked my phone to check if I had a message from him, sadly I didn't. I've been checking my phone every hour since yesterday.

I feel like I should call him but I don't want it to seem like I've forgiven him or I'm too desperate for friends..even though I am.

After Nathan left, things returned back to normal, the old normal, without Levi or Alexa. The bookstore remained empty and boring. I hate this normal. Nathan however promised to be here next weekend.

"Zoey" Kayla snapped her fingers across my face. "You completely zoned out, what's up with you?" she asked

"Nothing Kayla, I'm fine" I faked a smile and she gave me this 'I don't believe you look' then she dragged me to the store.

"Zoey?" She started but I cut her off

"I'm fine, really"

"I know that we aren't really close, but I know when something's up with you, you have been acting strange since Ms Anna had her friends over" I tried to speak but she stops me.

"Don't try to deny it Zoey, believe it or not we all miss your joyful spirit, you are a really good person Zoe, you can share what ever problems you have with me, I'd love to help in anyway I can, remember a problem shared is a problem halved"

I lift my head to look at her, tears threatens to spill as she looks me with genuine concern.

Then...She hugs me

Just like that, the tears falls uncontrollably. Before now I didn't feel the loneliness, I knew I was lonely but I didn't really feel it, I guess I allowed myself to get used to it already.

Then Levi and Alexa came into my life and suddenly gave my existence a meaning. It felt like heaven knowing that I had two people who thought I was worthy of their friendship.

Usually, my time at the bookstore was used to think about my disaster life, but when they came, I barely had time to wallow in my grief. They are probably gone now. All the anger I had towards Levi had been replaced with worries (that something probably happened to him or Alexa) and sadness that he got tired of me and decided to stop talking to me. I can't afford to loose the two additional friends I just got because of a silly misunderstanding.

I really needed that hug.

After a while I decided to tell Kayla everything, just about Levi of course I really didn't want to get her involved with many past. I don't know why I did that but I had to let it all out.

"Now I get why you were all tensed up when they were here" she said

"Yeah"

"So did he explain to you why he hid his identity?"

"He tried calling and he sent a few texts but I ignored them, but we agreed to meet at a beach like 2 weeks ago then he bailed on me. I haven't heard from him since then" I sigh

"You know his brother got involved in an accident two weeks ago right? Specifically on the Sunday after their lunch or so according to the media"

What?

Shit Zoey, family emergency. I promise to come as soon as I can, but if I can't, i promise to make it up to you

I went numb.

"Zoey...Zoey, Breathe" Kayla shook me

"W-What do you mean " I stuttered

"Well, I read on an article that he got involved in an accident, let me check it out" she picks her phone from her pocket and reads

"On Sunday, about 4:45pm, Mr Andrew McIntyre's car tumbled and caused a fatal accident. We are not certain about what is going on right now, all we know is that he is currently at St Nicholas hospital "

"Ooh" I managed to say, Levi didn't bail on me, I just concluded, I feel like a wicked and selfish person, here I was angry that he was avoiding me.

"You should call him Zoey, he might need a friend" Kayla said.

"Y-Yeah, I should" I can't believe this. I've been selfish about the whole thing, I wonder what he thinks about me.

"Aiit Zoey, amma go back to work, cheer up babe, it's gonna be alright. And we are definable going home together " she walks out of the store, but not without giving me another hug.

At night.....

Kayla walked me home and reminded me to call Levi as soon as I got home, she reassured me that it's gonna be fine.

Right now, I lay on my bed debating on whether I should call him or not, I'm scared of what I should expect. I'd give it a shot, whatever happens, good or bad I deserve it. I picked my phone and dialled

"Hello"
