Today was my first full day in London. My friend Mari had joined me on my flight to England and she promised to stay with me until I settled into a flat. She had been my closest friend back in Canada and she helped me fulfill my life long dream of attending university in London when I was just dreaming of it, until now, when it's actually happening.
We decided that we would visit one tourist attraction each day and today we chose the London Eye. It was gorgeous and so exhilarating to see London from up above. Mari insisted that we take a selfie but they were all so bad that we finally asked a middle aged man sitting close to us to take a photo of the two of us.
As I walk down the street I pull out my phone to text my sister the pictures we took. Not one minute later I crashed into someone and my phone flew out of my hand landing on the cement side walk a few meters away. The man I collided with step back.
"Fuck! Ah, I'm so sorry." I opened my mouth, prepared to reply but stopped myself when I looked up and saw Dan Howell and Phil Lester standing in front of me. However cheesy this may sound, they looked even cuter in real life.
"Oh! Oh my. Um, this not at all how I wanted to meet you but I...I am horrible at meeting people I love...oh! That sounds really weird." I took a breath in and exhaled. "I'm Lillian, a really big fan."
Dan smiled and rose his eyebrows, "Cool! That's, yeah....um." Thank god Mari saved the two of us from our awkward conversation (can I even call that a conversation?) because she cut in to ask if she could have a picture taken with Dan.
"Oh, yeah sure." While Mari rummaged through her purse for her phone, I remembered my abandoned phone on the sidewalk. Shit, I thought to myself as I cut in between Dan and Mari to get to where my phone lay. I crouched down beside it and picked it off the ground. The screen was totally shattered and the back was loose. I heard someone swear under their breath and looked to see a pair of black shoes standing beside me.
"Have you tried turning it on?" Phil's voice actually surprised me because i was expecting the shoes to belong to Dan. I clicked the button on the top of the depressed looking phone and a sliver of glass fell off from the screen. Dan snorted and Mari laughed. I stood up, holding my phone in front on me.
"Forever will we remember him as a hard, dedicated worker. He was respected and cared for by all."
"He was gruesomely murdered by Daniel Howell of London, England; who, however horrible his intentions were, will be guilty of his actions for all of eternity." Phil rested his hand on my shoulder as he spoke. I pressed my lips together, suppressing a burst of laughter.
"Rest in peace, my dear soldier." Mari added.
Dan broke the pause that followed Mari's final words, "I'll replace it."
"It? It?!" I ask dramatically. "His name is Cornelius, or was Cornelius." Phil laughed and Dan rolled his eyes.
"Fine. I will replace Cornelius. We can go shopping tomorrow if you aren't busy because I need to know that my money is going to the right thing. There is no way I'm going to give you five or six hundred pounds without knowing what you're gonna buy."
"Really? You don't have to, I can just buy myself a new one."
"If I don't buy you a new phone, I will forever feel guilty. Especially after Phil's emotional eulogy. Plus," Dan paused, "nope, there is no plus. I only have one reason. I would make a shitty lawyer, good thing I didn't continue at law school." I laughed and agreed even though I didn't really want him to buy me a phone. Who would turn down a day with Dan Howell?~~~
Thank you so much for reading the first part of my story! I would love some feedback, positive or negative, to help me improve or to just make my day :)
