After three days of arguing, Kakashi and Obito gave up. They had tried convincing the Hokage to let them go look for Rin. They were denied each time. They eventually gave up. Obito suggested they go anyways. Kakashi was apprehensive at first, but agreed when Obito held out an hour long argument with him. Obito went off the idea "ask for forgiveness not permission". They each packed a backpack that had food, weapons, and a sleeping bag. They stuck a note to each of their doors. Kakashi's note said "gone on rescue mission" and Obito's note said "we went anyways".
After a day and a half of searching through the forest, they picked up a trail. Obito found a trail of Rin's chakra in blood and fabric. Kakashi and Pakkun had followed the trail into a cave. In that cave, they found a thing. Neither of them knew what it was. They were confused even more when it split in half. Between the two halves there was a small white blob. They both facepalmed at their dismissal of clues.
One of the things attacked them and the other one guarded a wall. The one attacking pulled out a kunai out of seemingly nowhere. Kakashi managed to slice of its hand before it could really attack him. Obito attempted to get close to the wall but was stopped by the one guarding it.
"Bakashi! The wall!" Obito shouted.
"What about it?" Kakashi asked.
As if on cue, they felt a familiar chakra flare. Rin. Kakashi ran to the wall and used a reverse mud wall jutsu to lower it. By the time the wall was about one and a half meters tall, Obito was up and over it. He very ungracefully landed on the other side.
Obito knelt down and picked her up. She shifted slightly but never opened her eyes. Obito made a mad dash for the mouth of the cave. He stopped when a small door opened to his left. An old man with waist length white hair stepped out. He had several tubes attached to his arms, chest, and back. Obito stared for another few seconds before gasping and backing up against the wall.
"Bakashi, come on! We gotta head back." Obito called.
"What's wrong?" Kakashi shouted back.
"Trust me. Run. Take Rin and run." Obito said as he walked towards Kakashi, never taking his eyes off the old man.
"No! We've been through this before. I'm not leaving you!" Kakashi argued.
"We need to get the hell out of here. That is Madara Uchiha. He is the strongest Uchiha to have ever lived and one of the strongest ninja. He has the Rinnegan." Obito whispered.
"Oh Kami. But he's old, right?" Kakashi whispered back.
"High Jounin at least, mid ANBU at best." Obito whispered.
"Are you children finished?" Madara snapped at them.
Obito sat Rin against the cave wall. "You're in no shape to fight. Rest."
She looked up at him. "That thing...his name is Shiro Zetsu. He has...Hashirama Senju cells. He can...regenerate limbs."
"Thanks for the heads up. Now, please rest." Kakashi said.
"Thank you...both of you." She said as her head fell back against the wall.
"See, child? The world is cruel. Just look around you." Madara said.
"Not all of it!" Obito argued.
"You have lived your entire life in world stuck in war. Look at yourself, your friends, everyone! We can change that." Madara slammed his cane down.
"How?" Obito asked.
"Eye of the Moon. We can create a utopia. Everyone will be in dream like trance and see their perfect world. No more hatred." Madara explained.
"Who actually wants to live in a perfect world? Nothing exciting happens. Besides, if you love, you run the risk of bearing hatred. War and violence are inevitable in a world full of shinobi." Obito argued, his Sharingan spun rapidly.
"See? Your Sharingan. Activated through a strong emotion like hate or pain." Madara pointed to Obito's eyes.
Obito sighed and pointed to Rin. "Or love or happiness. It was awakened because of her. She is one of my best friends.
"You wouldn't want something happening to her. Something horrid like death or torture. This is war, boy. You can't trust anyone!" Madara slammed his cane down again.
"You, need to shut up. The world has changed. You've literally been living under a rock for the last hundred years!" Obito shouted, his Mangekyou spinning dangerously.
"Oh? You are speaking nonsense, boy! You have even awakened your Mangekyou. The only way to do that is to provoke intense emotions. The strength caused by killing your best friend." Madara smirked thinking he won the argument.
"Nope. I was crushed under a rock and saved. The fear, relief, happiness, and love was enough."
"Fine. You say war and violence is inevitable. So be it." Madara stated as he lunged for Rin.
"Kamui!" Obito yelled.
Both Rin and Kakashi disappeared in a whirl. Obito disappeared along with them.
Madara just sighed and waited for Obito to reappear. Meanwhile, Kakashi and Rin started freaking out. Obito carried Rin to the small cot and sat her down. Kakashi looked around in awe at landscape around them. They were standing on a large grayish blue, metallic cube. Around them were hundreds of more cubes and prisms ranging from small to huge. Beyond the cubes was just a dark void.
"Where are we?" Kakashi asked as he spun around taking in everything.
"It's my Kamui dimension. My Mangekyou allows me to transport stuff here or travel through it." Obito replied.
"Obito! Your eye, it's bleeding!" Rin pointed out.
Obito wiped the blood off his face. "Oh yeah. Using the Mangekyou causes my vision to deteriorate until I go blind. So, I can't use it all the time."
"Oh..." Rin stared at the ground seriously as if she was in deep thought or planning something.
"We can either go back to the village or fight." Obito said.
"I think we should leave." Kakashi suggested.
"I know I won't be the one fighting, but he will just keep trying unless he dies." Rin said.
"You're right. He needs to die." Obito stated.
"Could you bring me back Shiro Zetsu's hand or arm or something. He could be useful for medical purposes." Rin asked as she laid down.
"Sure." Obito nodded.
"He has tubes connected to his body. Those must be keeping him alive. Whatever is on the other end of those needs to be destroyed. Destroy the tubes too." Kakashi instructed.
Obito placed his hand on Kakashi's shoulder. "Got it. Kamui!"
"Well? Have you decided to join me?" Madara asked.
"Never." Obito lunged for Madara.
"War brings pointless death. People die for no reason!" Madara yelled.
"It's the life of a shinobi. Deceit, destruction, and death. It happens in war." Obito stated.
Obito kept slashing his kunai at Madara. He hoped he could distract him long enough for Kakashi to cut some tubes. Kakashi managed to cut one of the tubes on his back. He groaned in frustration and pain. Obito took the opportunity and slashed at Madara's eyes. He managed to severely damage Madara's left eye. While Madara tried to stop the flow of blood, Kakashi and Obito slashed three more tubes.
Madara was much slower and was struggling. Kakashi went to fight Shiro Zetsu while Obito handled Madara. Obito slashed two more tubes. There was one tube left and it was directly over Madara's heart. Obito dodged and ran around the cave.
Madara was careful to not let either Obito or Kakashi get close enough to cut his last tube. He kept trying to hit Obito, but with him being so young he was much faster and dodged. Obito kept dodging and running for another ten minutes. Kakashi had completely dismembered Shiro Zetsu, so it would take longer to regenerate. Obito backed up until he was back to back with Kakashi.
"Toss Shiro Zetsu's pieces near the tube. I'll burn since he won't let me get close." Obito whispered.
"Okay. After you burn it, I'll trace them to wherever." Kakashi whispered back.
"You ready?" Obito whispered.
"Let's do it." Kakashi nodded.
Kakashi picked up the pieces of Shiro Zetsu and tossed them behind Madara. Madara just stared at them as if they were stupid. Obito kept darting around the cave. He stayed closed to rocks and other obstacles. He finally stopped when he was back to his spot by Kakashi. Madara lunged forward but was abruptly stopped. Obito has been darating around the cave to set up a trap. Madara had followed him the entire time unknowingly. The tube connected over his heart had gotten wrapped around the rocks. Madara tried stepping forward only to groan in pain. Every time he moved, Kakashi and Obito could see the tube tug on his chest. Obito made a series of hand sign. He held his hand up to his mouth and inhaled.
"Fire Style: Bomb Blast Dance!"
He exhaled a column of flames that spiraled through the cave. It melted the pieces of Shiro Zetsu and the tubes. Madara collapsed in pain. He was kneeling on the ground, his hand clutching his chest. The other hand was reached out towards Obito. Madara tried to speak but only wheezed. Kakashi followed the trail of melted rubber. He reached the cave wall and stared at it for a few minutes. The trail just led into the wall. He knocked on the wall and realized there was a hidden passage behind it. He put his hands on the ground and went to lower the wall. He never got to lower it because he had to duck. Obito had shouted for him to duck as he practically flew over Kakashi's head. Obito's foot made contact with the hollow part of the wall and caused it to crumble to the ground. He landed inside the passage and looked as shocked as Kakashi. Kakashi stood up and just stared at Obito.
"What!?!" Kakashi shouted.
"I don't know!?!" Obito shouted back, equally confused.
"What do you mean you don't know?!" Kakashi yelled.
"I just, like, ran and kicked the thing! I don't know why!" Obito yelled while wildly gesturing with his hands.
"You idiot. What would you have done if it wasn't hollow?" Kakashi asked.
"Said ow?" Obito replied, though it sounded more like he was asking.
Obito shrugged and ran through the passage. Kakashi followed him down. Kakashi nearly ran into Obito's back. Obito had stopped and was staring in awe at what was in front of him. Kakashi regained his balance and followed his friends gaze. They didn't know whether to be impressed, shocked, or terrified. In front of them, the small passage opened up into a massive cavern. What laid in the center of this cavern could only be described as demonic. There was a giant statue with its hands held in front of it, fingers spread. They couldn't tell what it was. Was it human? Monster? Demon? Animal? They had no idea.
Obito started walking towards the statue. Kakashi grabbed his arm and stared at him as if he was an absolute idiot. Kakashi would never understand how Obito could drop kick a wall then immediately walk towards and demonic monster statue. Obito pulled his arm away and kept walking. He walked up to the statue. Kakashi stayed back and couldn't decide if he regretted it or not. The sight of his friend standing in front of a demonic statue that towered at least thirty meters above him in a dimly lit cave looked incredibly ominous. He couldn't stand just watching anymore, so he ran up to the statue.
"Bakashi, look at this." Obito pointed to the engraving above his head.
"Demonic Statue of the Outer Path." Kakashi read the words aloud.
"What's the Outer Path?" Obito asked.
"I have absolutely no idea, but it doesn't sound good." Kakashi replied.
"This what the tubes were connected to. We need to get rid of it." Obito said.
"How?" Kakashi looked at it closer.
"Fire, smash, or sink?" Obito suggested.
"Let's sink it. We'll tell Minato about it and he can help us figure it out." Kakashi stated.
Kakashi put his hands down on the ground. He focused his chakra and managed to almost completely sink the statue. Only the head was visible when he was finished. He stood up and staggered a bit. He used a lot of his chakra to sink the statue. He hadn't realized the statue was even bigger and that half of it was already underground. Obito gave him a fist bump and put his hand on Kakashi's shoulder.
"Kamui!"
