the young (y/n) stretched out of the warm hotel blankets with a yawn. it had be the first time in days she had gotten proper sleep. L made her go to bed, despite her protests, insisting that his freakish levels of insomnia weren't sustainable to anyone but himself.
"ah, i see you've woken up." he said, perched on one of the chairs close to the bed the disheveled girl laid upon. with a light pink grazing her cheeks, she nodded. she was embarrassed by the fact that L insisted on watching her as she slept, he'd certainly grown much more observant of her ever since the alleyway incident.
"what time is it? i have to go to work soon, don't i?" she asked him, the grogginess still evident in her voice as she willed herself to crawl out of bed. she was much too sleepy to notice the slight purse of his lips at her words.
"6:30, you've still got plenty of time," he replied smoothly, popping a red lollipop into his mouth to rid himself of the bitter taste that seeped into it, as he watched her languidly pull herself out of bed and make her way to the dresser.
"ah, that's good," despite her words, her mildly disappointed tone betrayed her. she opened the closet door and searched for her clothes in the midst of L's infinite white t-shirts, slowly pushing the hangers in order to scavenge for her own clothes.
"what is it? you don't seem too excited about going back to work after the weekend," a hint of coyness could be heard in L's voice as he watched her drag herself around the room to get ready.
"i'm not, spending so much time here has entirely corrupted my standards for this investigation," she sighed, finally plucking out a black two-piece suit.
"i feel like i'm surrounded by idiots all day, i can feel as my neurons are actively being fried, and i count the hours until i can get back here and get some real work done," she grumbled, making her way to the bathroom to get ready for the day. her frustration never failed to amuse L, an airy chuckle escaped his lips as he watched her from afar pour her frustration into her daily routine.
however, he couldn't deny that she had a point, it would be entirely more productive to hold the investigation with the rest of the task force actively. but L knew it was much too early for that.
"i'm sure you can manage a little longer, soon enough the task force will be small enough to start a proper investigation," he calmly reassured as she exited the bathroom, now ready for yet another draining day at work.
"i know, we have to be patient, but please try to understand my current situation," she pleaded as she grabbed her worn work bag.
