And Jack stayed on the ground, not moving anything.
Because he couldn't.
The enemy, after tying up Reid, ran away, obviously to call reinforcements. Jack took advantage of that, and got up, ran to Reid and untied him. Reid looked at him incredulously, but Jack simply shook his head and took the guns of every patient and tied them up in a sack, while Reid kept watch. As soon as Jack finished, Reid shouted 'They're coming!' Jack picked up the sack and ran into the woods, unnoticed. Reid, as they had discussed, took another route, where he would be just at the edge of their vision, and they both sprinted as fast as possible until they reached camp. Jack went straight to the officer's tent and dropped the sack there, saying that he had to go check on Reid. He spoke into his communication device, and immediately heard Reid panting, since his route was the longer one. 'I-I lost...them...five minutes...ago.'
Which could only mean two things:
Either they were hiding near the camp, ready to spring up on Reid anytime,
Or they had succeeded!
'We did succeed, by the way. Reid is still my friend...' Jack told Lisa, thereby finishing the story of his first mission. But Lisa's face remained icy, except her eyes, which portrayed an emotion Jack couldn't quite put a finger on...
'But that was the easiest mission - the other's were more like stealing important documents, weapons, even people--' Here Lisa had an urge to laugh, and reprimanded herself for that. Stealing people? Yeah, he definitely still had an odd sense of humour. Lisa, pay attention!
Jack continued; 'But, as you can see, I survived it! Like, not just mentally, it was so hard, even without the constant bullets and--'
'Jack, stop!' Lisa had burst into tears while he was talking, and was now sobbing uncontrollably. She had hugged her knees to herself and now buried her head behind them, while saying, 'How can you...just...you could have...like it's nothing...I was so...'
Jack got up, went to her chair and somehow managed to hug her in that awkward position. Then she broke out of her ball and slid off her chair, burying her head in Jack's chest, and Jack sank to his knees.
And they both lay there, in each other's arms, on the floor, until Lisa broke away. Looking into Jack eyes, she whispered,
'Everyone thought you were dead.'
A/N: And there you have it! And please try to remember Reid... but I'm not saying why!
