A/N: look, I hadn't forgotten about the man who abused Ellis when he was younger, here...

TW for the reminder that Ellis was abused (nothing explicit) (look at me, remembering a TW)

Dexter

François suggested that Dae could come to our meeting, which surprised me, but I can see it as a good opportunity for Dae to practice behaving himself in the relevant social situations. Besides, he was incredibly well behaved at Gray's birthday, so he deserves this as proof that I trust him and he's important to me. I just hope François adjusts himself to not say anything Dae shouldn't be hearing.

When we get to François' office, I'm even more surprised to see Ellis is there, looking easily as sharp as François in a slim-fitting royal blue suit. He still hugs Dae just like usual, and gives me a shy grin.

"Hi Dexter."

"Hi Ellis, how are you?"

"A lot better these days."

I don't know precisely what he means, even if it was obvious there was something going on between him and François, that Gray seems to have been involved with. It means, though, I'm not entirely shocked when François leans against his desk and tells me he wants to discuss Ivan Klavic.

"What?"

That makes it apparent he hasn't warned Ellis though, and Dae shifts uncomfortably by my knees at his friend's reaction.

"I promised to discuss things with you. And this is something I haven't mentioned. When I found out about your previous tutor, I asked Dexter to find him. I wanted him dead."

"Suzu...you can't just..."

"I know, baby. I should have discussed it then, which is why I'm bringing it up now. Dexter's people found him. He went for a job at another music school, when things got too hot for him at the one you were at."

"And you've killed him, Dexter?" Ellis turns those usually laughing eyes on me, and they're a lot more stormy than usual. Dae is staring hard at the floor, like he's hoping it will swallow him. I'm not far off, myself.

"I haven't, Ellis." I don't bother saying I would arrange it, if necessary. I dance around my profession. Knowledge equals culpability after all. But I think it's obvious to everyone in the room.

"Do you have an update, Dexter?" François asks, pulling Ellis' attention back to him.

"It so happens I do. He got the job. My man has been watching him closely. He hasn't done anything. To anyone. But my man is concerned about a couple of the relationships he's already developing with students."

"You're saying he hasn't done anything but you think he will." Ellis is shaking but his mouth is set.

"Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying."

"Why have you had Dexter tell me this, Suzu?"

"I have held things from you in the past, and I promised not to going forward. This is something you deserve to be aware of."

"And you expect me to make a decision about what happens to the man who abused me?"

"Not if you don't want to."

"You won't kill him."

It's a statement, but I suspect Ellis knows it's as not true as I do. François will have Klavic killed if he thinks for a moment it's the best thing for Ellis.

After a few moments, where his face covers a gamut of emotions, Ellis sits up.

"I want him charged."
