"I can't believe you got the Geometry teacher fired," Dex said to Fitz and Sophie at lunch that next week. "I mean, that dude was working at Foxfire for twenty years,"
Sophie and Fitz laughed before she said, "Well, I'm as surprised as you are. I didn't think Mr. Leto would actually listen to us,"
"Me neither," Fitz said with a shrug. "But now I'm wondering who the new teacher is,"
All of their friends just shrugged—which meant that they had no idea who the new teacher was either.
"Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see," Sophie said before taking a sip from her water. "I hope it's somebody chill,"
"And doesn't give lots of homework," Maruca added—because she had geometry later.
"And, preferably, hates Stina Heks," Fitz said with a grin.
Sophie nodded right before the bell rang and dismissed everyone to their next class.
Sophie and Fitz walked right into the Geometry classroom to find a woman with raven black hair and midnight blue eyes. When they passed by her desk she stared at them unwaveringly before smiling.
"You two must be Mr. Vacker and Miss Foster," She said, nodding at both of them. "I must thank you for giving me this job,"
Sophie didn't know what it was about this woman that creeped her out—but something felt off. She seemed nice, but she also seemed like the kind of person you didn't want to meet in a dark alley.
So Sophie and Fitz gave the teacher a nervous smile before quickly ushering themselves to their seats.
After five more minutes, the class was full with the rest of the class and they were talking about the new teacher that was surveying each of them with a curious glare.
"Good afternoon class," She said with a strained smile. "I'm Mrs. Cadence, your new Geometry teacher,"
"What'd you do?" Stina whispered to Sophie. "Get our old teacher fired? That's so stupid,"
"Miss Heks!" Mrs. Cadence exclaimed causing everyone to stare at Stina. "Please do not talk while I'm speaking,"
Stina grumbled something Sophie couldn't understand before saying, "Yes ma'am—sorry,"
Mrs. Cadence then started to take roll before she told them what they were doing that day. "I have a project that I want you all to do—and you get to work in partners, but I get to choose your partner."
Everyone's face went from super excited to super miserable. Hopefully, since Mrs. Cadence was so grateful to Fitz and Sophie, she'd pair them together.
Mrs. Cadence started calling out the pairs, and when she got to Sophie's name, Sophie had to bite her lip and close her eyes really tight—wishing to be paired up with Fitz.
"Sophie Foster with Stina Heks,"
"What?!" Both Sophie and Stina exclaimed.
Mrs. Cadence blinked. "Is there a problem girls?" She gave them each an intense glare.
"No," They both mumbled.
Sophie put her head down on the table for the next five minutes before Mrs. Cadence told them what they're project was about.
"You and your partner with create a 'robot'," She made air quotes when she said the word. "Out of different shapes—and they have to be ordinary shapes. You will be graded on creativity, tidiness, and the correct usage of the shapes."
