It'd been a couple of weeks, so October was almost over and tomorrow was Halloween. Sophie and her friends didn't go trick-or-treating anymore, but Biana, Marella, Maruca, and Linh said that they loved giving the little kids candy.
But Tam had a different idea.
As Sophie waited for Edaline to come pick her up that afternoon, both Dex and Tam walked up to her.
"What's up guys?" She asked as they came over.
"So, you know how tomorrow is Halloween?" Dex asked with a grin.
Sophie nodded her head. "Yeah...?"
"Well," Dex continued. "Tam had this great idea that the three of us could go around town scaring little kids,"
Sophie stared long and hard at the two boys. They both had stupid grins plastered on their faces and their eyes gleamed with mischief.
"Why me?" Sophie asked. "Why not...Keefe or Marella?"
"Well," Tam said. "Marella, Linh, Biana, and Maruca said that they were going to pass out candy to kids, Jensi is sick, and there is no way I'm asking Keefe or Fitz to scare little kids,"
"Huh," Sophie said, putting her hands on her hips. "So you only asked me because I was the only one left?"
Both Tam and Dex's faces filled with panic before Dex said, "No, no, no, that's not why! I mean, you're as scary as scary can be—that's why we asked you. Plus, we thought it'd be super fun and—"
"I'm just kidding," Sophie said, stopping his rant.
"Y-you were?" Dex asked as Tam burst into laughter.
Sophie nodded as a laugh escaped her lips. "And don't worry, I'll come with you guys," Sophie then turned around to find Edaline's car in the long line. "Well, I've got to go," She started to walk away, but then she quickly turned around. "Oh, and Dex?—Maybe you should dress up as Gordy the Clown. I bet the kids will love it."

The next day, Sophie and Dex met up with Tam at his house, and to say that they were both surprised was an understatement.
The house was filled with paintings and glass and instruments and tons of shiny things that made Sophie's eyes hurt.
"Yeah," Tam said as he led them upstairs. "It's a little overkill down here," He led them down the long hallway and to a door at the very end. "But it's better in my room,"
He opened the door and Sophie honestly wasn't the least bit shocked about what the room looked like. All of the colors were either black or navy blue, and the only furniture was a bed, a recliner, and a computer desk.
"Dude, why is it so dark in here?" Dex asked, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
Sophie laughed. "Have you met Tam?" True, Sophie thought the dark curtains over the windows were a little much, but other than that, the room screamed Tam Song.
"Tam thinks he's rebelling against our parents with all of the darkness,"
Sophie, Tam, and Dex all turned around to see Linh leaning against the door's threshold.
"He also likes to annoy them," She said with a laugh. "He's always going on about how our mom's a vampire and our dad's a leprechaun. That's why he keeps four-leaf clovers and cloves of garlic in his desk drawer."
Tam smiled with pride as Sophie and Dex shared a concerned look.
"Anyway," Linh said. "Why are you two here?"
