1. Reunited
"Hey Mace."
He showed up at my doorstep today, the boy who had left me 3 years ago. The boy I thought I would never see again, was here. On my doorstep.
It wasn't just him, but also three other boys curiously looking up at me and whispering things to each other without taking their eyes off of me.
I stood there, jaw to the floor, staring at the boy who had now matured into a young man, not being able to believe what was happening.
Was this a dream?
He told me he couldn't come back if he wanted to.
My legs felt like jello, and my eyes threatened to let tears slip out, but I forced myself to keep it together thinking I would look like a fool.
I watched from my bedroom window as the Irwin family packed the last of their boxes into the moving truck, I would've been out there clinging to Ashton's side if my mom hadn't told me to give them space.
Tears slipped from my eyes as I clung to the feeling of happiness that I knew would be gone in a few short minutes. Knowing my best friend in the entire world was leaving and probably never coming back was the worst feeling that someone could have.
I couldn't hold it back any longer, I needed to hug him one last time, to hear his voice, I needed a proper goodbye.
I sprang away from my window and rushed to the other side of my room, immediately stopping when I reached my door. I gently turned the cold door knob, opening it in the tiniest increments. I slipped my fragile body out of the room and tip-toed down the steps, trying not to disturb my mom who was just in the kitchen.
When I had successfully reached the front door without my mother's knowing, I grabbed the knob and swung it open, revealing the very boy I was going to say goodbye to.
His hand was in the air as if he was about to knock, his eyes were red and puffy and a single tear laid on his cheek. His hazel eyes connected with mine blue, and I knew in that moment that what was about to happen would be the hardest thing i'd have to do.
