5. How Many Doctors?
"No no you see Marie-"
I cut off a hungry pizza-stuffed Mikey who was explaining to me the fundamentals of a show called Dr. Who, "Macy." I said with a pinch of sarcastic irritation as I picked at the pizza that sat on my plate.
He paused, "I'm just sticking with Marie, that is the other half of your name anyways." He took a huge bite of pizza and continued, "Anywho, it's Tardis blue, it can't just be blue thats not how it works."
I chuckled at the boy who could not shut his yap about this show. It's amazing how much free time he hand on his hands. Who has time to watch all the seasons of a show three times in two months?
I shook my head in confusion, "Wait so there's how many doctors?"
Mikey ran a greasy hand through his hair, "Marie you cant say you've watched the show and not know how many doctors there are." He eyed up my barely-touched slice of pepperoni pizza, "You gonna eat that?"
A cheesy smile spread across his face as I pushed the plate towards him. He subtly pumped his fist, considering we were at a restaurant, and whispered a small victory under his breath.
"I never said I watched the show." He lifted his head up from the pizza and met my eyes.
"You've never watched Doctor Who?"
I sat there playing with the blonde strands of hair that fell just below my ribcage, "Umm..."
In that moment Mikey dropped his pizza where he was and left a $20 bill on the table. He grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the restaurant.
People started to stare as I casually tried to keep up with the antsy teenager that had me by the wrist.
"You can't be my friend if you haven't seen at least one episode of the best show in the world."
I laughed and quickly dodged the glass door that had swung back at me, throwing me off balance a bit.
We piled into my car and fastened our seat belts, adrenaline and energy rushing through us as our hearts thumped with excitement.
I turned the key and waited for the scruffy-haired boy to speak as he caught his breath, "My house or yours?"
~
"Here put it in" Mikey hands me at least 7 different DVD's of Dr. Who seasons.
I pick up the one nearest to me since Mikey practically threw them at me, and read Doctor Who: Season 3.
Shuffling around the DVD's I watch Mikey as he frantically tries to find the microwave popcorn in the pantry. He pretty much finds everything but that.
"Top left shelf Mikey." I shout from my DVD hunt.
"Hallelujah!" He shouts as he throws his fists in the air, taking 3 packages out of the box.
Mikey made himself at home much easier than I intended. It's not a bad thing, he just came off as more reserved when I had met him.
Our friendship was growing easily, I liked people like that. Who can open up and be who they are even when you're complete strangers. I admired that about Michael, I was never very outgoing. It took time for me to open up to someone, but Michael made me feel safe and secure. Opening up to him was no big deal for me, in fact, it was easy.He reminded me of Ashton in a way, Ashton was always the type to want to be friends as soon as he met you. I could open up to him easily too, but since he came back I've been having troubles doing that. Maybe because him leaving had permanently done a great deal of damage. I thought we would grow up together, not miss a huge chunk of each others lives. To this day I still feel like something is missing, or something was left unsaid. I needed answers. But sitting here watching Doctor Who would not help me get them.
