Eddie woke up the next morning feeling like terrible. His head was still pounding and his stomach was still turning, and he had no idea why. He turned his head to see that they had to wake up for school in ten minutes, so he started to shake Richie awake.
"Rich, it's time to get up. We need to start getting ready for school." Eddie shook Richie's shoulder. There was no response from Richie, so Eddie tried to sit up so he could shake Richie harder.
That was a mistake.
As soon as he sat up Eddie ran into the bathroom and threw up. When he finished, he flushed the toilet before crawling across the floor and leaning against the nearest wall, pulling his knees into his chest. At that moment Richie walked into the bathroom.
"Woah, Eds. What happened?" Richie said, walking over to kneel in front of his boyfriend.
"I got sick." Eddie scrubbed at his eyes before speaking up again. Can you please drop me off at home on your way to school?"
"Of course I can do that. But if you'd like, you can also stay here for the day. Nick is at work so you'd have the house to yourself, no one to bother you. At lunch I can come back here and make you soup or something if you're feeling up to it."
Eddie stayed quiet, seemingly thinking about the offer.
"If it makes you feel better, I can text Nick saying you're still here so that he won't come home unexpectedly." Richie said.
"No, don't worry about that. You don't need to text him, but I think I will stay here. I don't know if I'd be able to make the car ride, now that I think about it. And you don't need to come at lunch, I can make my own soup. But thanks anyway though." Eddie said.
Richie helped Eddie get to his feet and took him back to his room, making sure he was comfy in bed before going and getting ready for school. Soon after, Richie said goodbye to Eddie with a kiss on the forehead, and no sooner than Richie left the room Eddie was fast asleep.
Richie spent the day trying to keep his mind off of the sick boy in his bed. If he hadn't changed his mind about getting his grades up and keeping them there, he would have been beside Eddie at home the whole day. Instead, he suffered through six classes while paying as much attention as he could and ran to his car as soon as the last bell of the day rang. He sped all the way home, eager to get back to see how Eddie was doing. When he opened the door to his room, he was surprised to see Eddie leaning against the headboard with a book in his hands. Eddie looked up from the book when he heard the door open.
"Hi Rich."
Richie didn't respond, he just dropped his books in the doorway and trudged over to his bed, falling on it face-first where his feet were on his pillow and his head was at the bottom of the bed.
"Long day?" Eddie asked, closing the book and setting it on the bedside table.
"Sorta. I had a hard time paying attention in class, I was just worried about you. How are you feeling by the way?" Richie didn't pick himself up but he turned his head to look at Eddie.
"Aw, Rich. Don't tell me you're going soft on me now." Eddie chuckled slightly. Richie said nothing, so Eddie continued talking. "I'm feeling a lot better now. I slept a lot today and I managed to get some chicken noodle soup into me." Eddie leaned forward and patted Richie's back slightly. Richie still didn't move. "Richie, is about last night? I'm sorry I was such an asshole to you. It's just, when I get sick I don't want anything to do with anyone." Eddie offered quietly, but Richie was quick to shut him down on that one.
"No, it's not that. I was just, like, stupid worried today. I knew you were okay, like everyone gets sick now and again. Bill and Stan kept trying to make fun of me for worrying about you, but that just made me think about it more. I don't know the last time I was at school without you there. And, I dunno, I just wasn't used to having to try and do it all at such a fast pace without your help." Richie confesses quietly.
"Richie, I'm sorry you felt that way today. But I'm okay! I'm feeling all better now." Eddie said, rubbing his hand up and down Richie's back slowly. That gave Eddie an idea. He crawled forward and seated himself on the small of Richie's back, leaning forward and placing his hands on Richie's shoulders.
"Baby? What are you doing?" Richie asked, trying to get up but Eddie just gently pushed his shoulders back down.
"Stop, just relax, okay?"
Richie didn't resist as Eddie began to massage his shoulders and upper back. It was just silent between the two, besides the occasional sigh or gasp from Richie. It went on like that for a little bit, until Eddie rolled off of his boyfriend and laid next to him instead.
"Thanks." Richie turned his head to smile at the boy next to him.
"You don't need to thank me." Eddie blushed.
And it was silent again. They just laid there, next to each other, until Richie spoke again.
"So, remember my idea from the other day?"
Eddie furrowed his brows, trying to remember. "No, what was it?"
"I asked if you wanted to go on a date, and you said no because I had to finish all my work. Well, guess who finished all their work?" Richie sat up with a proud look on his face.
"I'm glad you did Rich. And I would love to go on a date, except for now I'm the one who has to catch up on the work."
Richie groaned and threw himself backwards so he was laying on his back the correct way now. "Come on Eds, you're killing me. You can do that work in no time at all. Can we please go on a date?"
It was silent for a moment while Richie waited for Eddie's response.
"You're kind of a brat, Richie."
And Richie knew he won.
"Hell yeah! At least me being a brat got you to agree to go on a date." Richie threw himself off the bed and towards his closet to grab something to wear. Eddie just watched fondly as Richie picked through various articles of clothing. Richie seemed to have found what he was looking for and he turned back around, gasping when he saw Eddie.
"What? What's wrong?" Eddie asked when he saw the look on Richie's face.
"I need to drive you home so you can get ready!" Richie dropped the clothes he picked on his bed and Eddie laughed out loud at his boyfriend.
"You can be so slow sometimes Richie." Eddie gathered his things and he and Richie went out to Richie's car so he could drive Eddie home.
