Mr. Picozzi: "Listen.. Raymond, I don't know how to tell you this lightly, but, your sister.. she's dead."

It felt as if someone had just stabbed me in the heart as hard as they could. I didn't believe it. This had to be some sick twisted prank! I promised to keep her safe! Hot tears started stinging my eyes and soon they were flooding down my face. My mom turns to me and I start frantically looking for any sign in her eyes that this is all fake.

Raymond: "This has to be some sick FUCKING JOKE!!"

Carrie: "Raymond.. honey, you see, Paige.. she was born with a heart disease. The doctors said she wouldn't live past three years old, but, she made it to five. Remember all those times I told you she was at Uncle Rocco's house?.."

She pauses for a minute and tries to compose herself.

Carrie: "She wasn't at Uncle Rocco's.. she was in the hospital either getting surgery or being watched carefully because she wasn't feeling well."

Raymond: "You're kidding. Mom. Why didn't you tell me??"

She says nothing

I stand up and I'm so furious and heartbroken that I start yelling at her

Raymond: "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU TELL ME, DAMN IT?!"

She still doesn't answer

Raymond: "FUCKING ANSWER ME!! TELL ME WHY THE HELL YOU DECIDED TO KEEP THIS A SECRET FROM ME! WHY DID YOU ACT LIKE EVERYTHING WAS OKAY THIS MORNING?!"

She finally decided to start speaking

Carrie: "I didn't find out about her dying until about an hour after you left."

She starts crying even more

Carrie: "And I didn't tell you because I didn't want you worrying about her dying. I wanted you to bond with her normally. Not bond with her because she was going to die. And I didn't want the chance of you NOT bonding with her. I wanted her to have the best life she possibly could have before she died."

Raymond: "I have no words to tell you, Mom. Let's just go home. I can't go through the rest of the school day."

My mom stands up and thanks Mr. Picozzi for being there and then walks with me to the desk and signs me out. We walk out the front doors and out to the car and then we both get in. I look in the back and see my sister's booster seat and then I start sobbing loudly, not being able to stop or control myself. My mom just sits there crying as well seeing me so hurt and realizing that her youngest is now gone and isn't coming back.

Mom finally collects herself just enough to begin driving and she starts heading home. The entire car ride was silent except for the crying sounds that came from us both.

We got home and I went straight to my room and locked the door behind me. I jumped onto my bed and started sobbing uncontrollably into my pillow. She's actually gone. No more of her barging into my room. No more of her saying 'I love you, Raymond!'. No more of her laughter that could brighten up a room in the matter of a few seconds. No more of her beautiful smile. No more of.. her. Just thinking about all the things that I'm not gonna have anymore makes me feel like someone is repeatedly shattering my heart more and more. Through all the crying I start to fall asleep and before I know it, I'm asleep.

~~A few hours later~~

I wake up and look at my phone. 8:36pm. For a second I forgot what happened before I went to sleep, and then the sadness hit me as I realized what happened. I see that I have multiple notifications from Sadie and Darius. I click on the notifications from Darius and start reading through the texts.
