A/N : Chapters will be written in third person from now on.
chapter six.
Donovan lay on the couch passed out after hours and hours of drinking. He nearly finished the bottle of Hennessey just by himself. In the evening, around about seven o'clock, his grandmother came through the door witnessing the state he was in. At first she thought he was just sleeping, but once her eyes fell on the bottle of liquor and the glass beside it, she knew exactly what was going on.
She was disappointed in him. She knew that he'd only drink to temporarily get rid of his sorrows, but she felt that he needed to find a healthier way to do that, because drinking definitely wasn't the answer. He swore to her that he'd never go down that road again, but here he was passed out on the couch.
She took what remained of the liquor, brought it into the kitchen, and poured it down the drain. She did the same with the beer in the refrigerator and the wine in the cabinets. She obviously couldn't trust him around it. She walked back into the living room and just shook her head at him. She saw visible goose bumps on his arms, probably since he had the AC blasting. Yes it was summer time, but it didn't need to be that cold in the house. She lay a blanket across his body, turned the lights off, and retreated to her room. They'd definitely have a talk once he was up and well.
"What the hell is up with you?" Uriah's best friend Jennifer since seventh grade questioned her. Jennifer was a beautiful Puerto Rican girl with long black hair, a pretty face, and a cute, petite body. They met on the first day of school in home room. There were a lot of new faces they both had seen since they came from two different elementary schools in the district. They had their seats assigned next to each other because the class seating was in alphabetical order. They built a steady friendship and were super tight by the end of the school year. They had been best friends ever since.
They were out at the spa getting pedicures, a time for relaxation and girl talk, yet Uriah seemed like she was sad and something was bothering her. She'd honestly rather be out by herself than with a party pooper.
"Nothing. I'm fine," Uriah responded giving he a fake smile.
"Yeah right, I smell bullshit right now. Please don't lie to me, Uri. What's the matter?" Jennifer hated to see her best friend hurting, and when Uriah felt certain emotions she felt the same ones, so with her feeling sad, Jennifer felt the same way.
"I'm fine, Jen. I've just got a lot on my mind."
Jennifer rolled her eyes and instantly got an attitude. She hated when Uriah did that. Every time something was bothering her she'd just keep it to herself and not tell her best friend. Jennifer loved her so much like a sister, so for not to open up to her after being friends for so long, it kind of hurt her feelings.
She scoffed. "Whatever Uriah."
"Look, I'll tell you, but now is just not the time, so don't get an attitude with me." Uriah said beginning to get angry too. Who was she to get mad? Yeah she was her best friend but that doesn't mean she has to tell her every detail of her life. She felt that she wasn't obligated to share information that she wasn't comfortable with sharing. She didn't like when people tried to question her about the things she does, that's why she blew up on Donovan before because she felt that he was prying.
"Mhm. Okay," Jennifer answered sarcastically.
Just then her phone beeped signaling she had received a text message.
| Ken | hey sexy, what u up to?
-2:57 p.m.Her heartbeat starting beating fast and looked over at Uriah to make sure she wasn't paying attention to her. When she turned to her, her eyes were closed while she lay in the seat, so Jennifer let out a sigh of relief, then responded to the message.
| Jennifer | at the nail salon with URIAH .
-2:58 p.m.| Ricky | lol..why u writing her name in caps n shit??
-2:58 p.m.Jennifer sighed.
| Jennifer | because this is wrong..and we both know it is
-3:00 p.m."Jennifer!"
Jennifer turned to Uriah in a panic. "Huh?"
"Who the hell's got you so preoccupied? I've been calling your name for the last few moments."
"Oh, no one,"she spoke nervously
"Mhm. You know you're going to have to tell me," Uriah smiled. She sensed that Jennifer has finally found a guy the she was interested in since being single for the last year. If it were true, she was happy that she was finally moving on from her ex-boyfriend who broke her heart.
"Only if you tell me what's up with you."
"I already told you I am, Jen," Uriah said. "So what you want to do after this? I got to be at work by eight."
Jennifer looked at her friend as she sat in thought. "How about the hair salon."
"Yeah let's do it," Uriah agreed. "I think I want to get a haircut..."
"I'm so happy to be back here with you and Jr.," Jaden spoke to his long-term girlfriend as they cuddled together in their king sized bed. After a couple weeks of separation after the incident, Monica felt that it was time for Jaden to be back home with her and their son.
Jaden was caught texting another female about some questionable things. Though it didn't prove he was cheating, Jaden did step out on her before and she really had her guard up. Cheating or not, Monica felt that he shouldn't have been texting another woman as much as he was.
"I am too," Monica spoke as she gently stroked his face. "But if you do some dumb shit again, I swear we're over. I'm serious this time, because I'm sick and tired of playing games with you."
Monica began getting emotional. She has been through so much for so long with Jaden that the bullshit was really getting old. She was twenty-three years old, mature, and felt that she could find anyone else in the world who would treat her right. She wanted to get married some day and have a big family and be with a man that was actually willing to commit. Jaden was a great guy, but he was sometimes immature and he never even brought up the idea of marriage which scared her. She was just afraid that she was investing too much time in someone who didn't share the same love for her as she did for him.
"I know baby. I'm promise I'm going to try my best to be a better man for you and our son. I just need you to know that with anything I do, I never mean to intentionally hurt you." He kissed her hand. " I'm going to treat you right."
You need to, or else someone else will, Monica thought to herself as she turned away from Jaden so that they were spooning.
Kendrick stood outside of his front door as the night's breeze whipped around him. He brought the burning cigarette to his lips and took a puff, then released smoke into the air. He couldn't wait for the beautiful woman to finally show up. It's been about two weeks since they've seen each other and he's been craving her. To him, she was exotic and exciting, and he just couldn't get enough.
Soon, her silver Nissan pulled up in front and a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. He was glad. She parked and got out the car and made her way toward Kendrick. He watched as her dark hair flowed and her hips swayed from left to right. He couldn't wait to get her back in his bed.
As she walked up to him, he noticed the wretched expression present on her face. He smirked. Kendrick knew that she felt guilty, but he honestly didn't care, because if she really felt that bad she wouldn't be doing what she was doing. What he wanted, he got. Under any circumstances.
She stood in front of him and lifted her eyes to reach his. "Hey," she mumbled dryly.
"Jennifer," he smiled. "It's been a while."
