chapter two.
A few weeks or so passed, and I was just going about my typical business; running errands, relaxing and all that. Jaden was still home, but in the process of mending things with his girlfriend, Monica.
My mom has been in and out, being that she has a boyfriend (whom I'm not so fond of) but who's to say she can't have fun too?
I got up in the morning and got all dolled up to go see my boyfriend Kendrick since we haven't spent time together in a little over a week. I made an effort to see him because I didn't want him to get angry with me and think I was forgetting about him. I got in my car and headed over to the neighborhood that he lives in called Westbrook.
Westbrook is located in the west side of town. The west side wasn't the best part of the city , but it wasn't the worst either. You had your crimes and ruckus and what not there, but it wasn't the slums either unlike the Southside. I, myself come from the north side. Wellington, specifically. The north side wasn't exactly the best place either but it was one of the better places in our city. Now, the south side was deep in the hood. It was like a war zone, and anybody from there was pretty much street as hell. I'd describe it as survival of the fittest.
I made my way to Westbrook and found my boyfriend's apartment. I parked my car and walked up to the door, ringing the bell. Moments later he opened the door shirtless with a blank expression on his face
"Hey bab-"
"Where you been at this past week and a half?" He cut me off sternly. He looked me up and down rudely and my heart began racing. I didn't want him to be angry. At the same time, though, how could he scold me? The phone and visiting works both ways.
"I'm sorry baby, I've been kind of busy. I had a lot of errands to run and business to take care of," I spoke timidly. "The phone does work both ways though," I added.
He gave me a hard glare, then roughly grabbed my forearm pulling me inside until he got to the couch where he flung me down. He walked back over to the door, slammed it, then locked it.
"You cheating on me?"
"Kedrick-"
"Answer the fucking question Uriah!" He yelled getting in my face. This is exactly what I didn't want. Kendrick had bad anger problems an has the tendency to blow up on me a lot. I try to do things to make him happy, but he still will end up getting upset with me one way or another. People always tell me our relationship isn't healthy, but I love him. We love each other.
"I'm not! I told you I was fucking busy damn it!" I shouted back at him, something I shouldn't have done.
He gripped me back up and roughly pushed me against the wall.
"Don't you ever raise your fucking voice at me!" He yelled followed by a hard slap to my face. "Ever!"
He struck me again, this time with a punch to my eye causing me to fall to the floor.
This wasn't the first time Kendrick had hit me. It was actually a common accurance, but it was my fault. I shouldn't have disrespected him and I deserved it. It was all out of love.
His face softened and he gently helped me get up and sat me on the couch.
"Shit Uriah! You see what you do to me? You see what you make me do?"
"I'm sorry," I cried softly
He lightly touched my eye where he had hit me, and I flinched. The skin there stung. He huffed. "Just leave. Go home and fix your face. I need some alone time."
He quickly grabbed my face and gave me a hard kiss. We both stood up and he moved me towards the door.
"Bye Uriah, you know I love you, right?" By the tone of his voice I knew my answer was supposed to be yes.
"Yeah," I uttered. "I love you too."
✯
When I got back home it was about two in the afternoon. I knew for sure my mom wasn't home, but I was startled when I saw Jaden's car in the drive way. I didn't want anyone to see my face.
I unlocked the front door and slowly crept in. I didn't see any sign of him, so I began rushing in. I ran up the stairs and was about to run to my room when I bumped into someone coming out the bathroom.
'Shit,' I thought. I just knew I was caught.
"Damn, my bad," I heard a voice say, but strangely it wasn't my brother's.
I looked up to see that guy that was in my house before, whose name I had yet to know. Green eyes.
He looked me in my face and obviously he saw my swollen eye and the red mark on my cheek. He scrunched up his eyebrows in concern. "Shit, are you okay?" He asked
"Yeah I'm fine, and watch where you're going."
I attempted to swiftly walk by him, but gently, he pulled me back by my arm. I quickly jumped back, still on edge from Kendrick's assault.
"Keep your hands off of me!"
"I'm sorry."
"Where's my brother?"
"In the backyard," he spoke
I sighed, "Is that where you're going now?" I asked.
"Yeah." He stuffed his hands in his pockets and just looked at me. He was so handsome and tall. He was probably about six foot two or so. When he looked at me I felt as if his eyes captured my soul. They were piercing. Gosh, if Kendrick heard my thoughts, he'd have a bullet through my head.
He gave me a look of pity, the last thing I needed or wanted for that matter. I wasn't some charity case. I could handle myself. If he wanted to, he could ask me what happened, and I could to the typical "I bumped into something" excuse, but I felt like he knew what really happened without me even having to say.
"Don't tell him," I whispered as tears began to form in my eyes.
He just gave me this hard look full of worry. "I won't."
"Yo, man! You good up there?" I heard Jaden call for green eyes. He approached the steps, causing me to jolt down the hall to my room, and close and locked the door.
"You was talking to my sister?" I heard him outside of my door.
"Not really man. We just bumped into each other when I was coming out the bathroom. I was just apologizing."
"Word. Don't mind her, she's always being clumsy and shit. Always falling and bruising herself. Come on man I got the beers and stuff set up out back."
I heard them trail down the steps as their footsteps and talking got fainter and fainter.
Thank you green eyes.
