As soon as i had gained enough courage, i peered over the rock again and saw Kara looking at her enemy's shell. The man was slumped on the floor, obviously dead.

She began walking towards me and that's when i realised i needed to move, in order not to be seen. But it was too late, she was already behind the rock. I resigned to the worst.

Kara walked in front of it, still holding her sword and saw me, crouched behind it. Her eyes went round at the sight of me as i struggled to my feet. We then just stared awkwardly for a few seconds before Kara broke the silence.

"Crap," she said, walking over to me. "Jack, what are you doing here? Look, it's not what it seems like Jack, please."

"You just killed that man..." I stammered, looking at her up and down. "And why are you dressed like that?"

"Jack, i didn't kill anyone!" She hissed, looking around to make sure nobody heard. "I didn't kill anyone, would you really think i would-"

But she had seen me eyeing her sword which was smeared red by the man's blood. She dropped the sword and looked at me.

"Okay." she said slowly, taking a deep breath. "Okay, no one knows about this, Jack you can't tell anyone that i'm a-"

"That you're a what?"

She glared at me like i was being clueless on purpose or something.

"That i'm an..." she looked straight into my eye fiercely. "that i'm an assassin."

"That you're a what?" I yelped, my brain still trying to process that word.

"That i'm an assassin," she said clearly. "The world's only teenage assassin. I murder people."

"Wait you murder any person you like?" I said, backing away from her.

"No, Jack!" said Kara impatiently, lowering her hood. "I murder people that deserve it. I murder criminals and bad people, that sort of thing, i don't just murder innocent people on the street!"

"Well, who's that guy you just killed?" I asked, nodding towards him.

"He works for Claw," said Kara, noticing my expression and answering the question before i asked. "Claw's a master criminal who invents and sells illegal, dangerous weapons. You see that thing he was wearing? His gauntlets? Claw made them and he sells them. But that's not the worst weapon out there. He's making weapons dangerous enough to destroy all of New York City."

"What?" I said. "New York City?"

"Yeah," said Kara nochantly. Then she stared at me. "Don't tell anyone about this, Jack."

"Wait, what?" I said. "No one knows about this? Not even your dad?

"Jack, think!" hissed Kara. "Would i tell him that i was killing people, i'm an assassin, and i nearly get myself killed every night? You think he'll just take that nicely?"

"Oh yeah," I said, shaking my head. "That makes sense."

"I'll explain to you everything in my lab when we get there," she said, placing her hood back on.

"Wait, the lab you already took me too?" I said, puzzled.

"No, it's another one." said Kara. "Now, let's go!"

We both walked forwards and disappeared into the darkness.
