Hogwarts Great Hall

Watching the first years get sorted always took forever. I was starving and couldn't wait to eat.

"Eliza Blackheart." McGonegal says.

A petite blonde sheepishly walks up to the hat. It takes only a few seconds to make his decision.

"Slytherin!"

Our table gives some unenthusiastic applause.

She quickly walks to the table and sits in the first empty seat she sees.

"Isabelle Samora."

"... Gryffindor!"

"Ugh the sorting ceremony is always so lame. I don't understand why they don't do it while we eat." Liliana says.

"I'm with you. It takes so long and there's not nearly as many Slytherins in recent years." Draco says scrunching up his nose in disgust.

Soon enough the sorting ceremony is over and the back to school feast begins. I stack some sweet potatoes, turkey, gravy, and fruit onto my plate.

"Are you guys excited to be back at Hogwarts?" Astoria asks in between eating.

"I can't wait to graduate. It'll be nice to find an apartment of my own." I tell them.

"You don't plan on moving in with Draco?" Pansy asks almost too quickly.

"Of course. Rosemary meant to say a place of our own. Right, Rosie?" Draco asks, saving me from my tiny mistake.

"Of course that's what I meant. Oops." I say.

"Don't worry. I assume a lot of us are feeling the exact same way about getting our own freedom. I know I can't wait to have my own house away from my parents. They can be so overbearing sometimes." Astoria says to me.

"Your family is overbearing? My parents arranged Rosie and I to be married without my knowledge or approval. They know everything about me and my where-abouts at all times. I'm afraid that I will never truly escape them even if I move out." Draco says quietly.

Wow, I never knew that Draco despised his parents. He always seemed like a good son; respectful, observant, rule following, father defending, Draco Malfoy.

I slide my hand over to his and give it a gentle squeeze. He looks over at me and I give him a small smile. He gives me one back.

"So Draco, how was your summer?" Pansy asks in a sultry voice.

"My family and I went to Italy for a few weeks. It was nice." He says before turning his attention to Blaise who had just told a joke.

I could tell Pansy was hurt that he didn't give her more thought but how could the poor girl not take a hint?

"How was your summer, Rosemary?" Pansy asks.

"It was good. I went to Paris for two weeks and it was gorgeous. It was mostly relaxing until my father hosted our Annual Ballroom Dinner party. He's always super anal about it." I tell her.

"Draco says that's when your parents announced your engagement? Were you expecting it?" She asks.

"Not really, I guess. I mean, I always knew that my Father would arrange my marriage but I didn't think it would be to Draco. I am glad it's someone I know though." I tell her honestly.

She nods and gives a small smile but I can tell it's fake. I know she wants to know all about the engagement and if it's legitimate so she can see where she stands with Draco.
