A/N: Hey ya'll, hope you've been enjoying the story so far. Writing this chapter made me remember that I'm no WWII expert, nor do I know much about the military. My sincerest apologies for any and all inaccuracies. I wrote what fit the story and my interpretation of the MCU timeline. Hope you guys enjoy :)
~~December 1943~~
Steve Rogers and his team, affectionately dubbed "The Howling Commandos" were scheduled to start going on missions at the start of 1944.
Howard Stark had given Steve a shield made of vibranium, the rarest metal on Earth. Steve carried it proudly, and laughed along with the teasing that came with continuing to fight with the moniker of Captain America and the star spangled outfit.
Everyone else on his team had a lot more experience fighting than he did, so they helped him learn the ins and outs of everything. He was taught about different guns, and he learned how to shoot more accurately. While he wasn't exactly an inaccurate shooter prior to the lessons from Bucky and Falsworth, he needed to be more consistent.
His serum made him a much faster learner than he was originally so he quickly mastered everything that he needed to. Well, he thought he did.
On a snowy Thursday evening, he was practicing hand to hand combat with the rest of the Howling Commandos minus Natasha. She was running late because she had to get fitted for the uniform she wanted.
Peggy was the one supervising their training. She had them go through one on one drills, and team drills where three or four people would gang up on someone. Peggy was unsatisfied with the way that everyone was performing and seemed to have a never ending list of things they needed to do better. She sighed as she wrote down areas of improvement for all of them after the first hour of training.
"Why the long face, Carter?" Natasha asked, finally joining them.
"How do you like the uniform, Natasha?"
"It was wonderful. Thank you for getting it for me, by the way. I was getting so annoyed with the baggy things," she said. Peggy had taken the liberty of getting her a uniform that suited her. It was completely black, stretchy, and didn't get in her way like the more bulky things did.
"No problem. Glad you like it." She scribbled one last thing down on her clipboard and handed it to Natasha.
"Read this and tell me how to whip them into shape," she grumbled. Natasha quickly scanned over what Peggy had written.
"So they're just sloppy for the most part, but the ones that win think that they're doing really well?" Peggy nodded and rubbed her eyes.
"I don't know how much longer I can watch them do this," she muttered painfully. Natasha looked up at what the squad was doing, and all of them had tackled Steve and were trying to keep him down. Natasha legitimately didn't know if they were just messing around or if they were doing a drill.
"Have you seen me fight yet, Agent Carter?" Natasha asked with a smirk. Peggy raised an eyebrow at her.
"Unless you count the time you severely wounded Agent Thompson's pride, no, I haven't. What did you have in mind, Romanoff?" Peggy could see the devilish light in Natasha's eyes and knew she was in for quite the show.
"Rogers," Natasha stepped forward. "Ready for a real challenge?" All of them stopped what they were doing and turned to stare at her.
"Do I have something on my face?" she joked after a few moments of awkward silence.
"Um...Are you sure about this Nat?" Steve looked concerned. She raised an eyebrow at him as she walked closer.
"Positive." Everyone got back as the two of them got into position to spar. With that, the fight began. Natasha could quickly tell that Steve was relying on his reflexes more than anything else.
