I woke up to my husband and my daughter snuggling against me. I was lying on my back. Caleb had an arm wrapped around me and his head on my chest. He remained asleep, but not Tamara. She was sitting on my stomach and sucking on her tiny hand. I rubbed my eyes and asked her if her hand tasted good. She pulled her hand out of her mouth and grabbed my nose.
"I think that somebody likes my nose," I stated.
"Me love Mama!"
"That is correct, Tamara. Mama does love you." I slowly removed Caleb's arm and head and cradled her in my arms. I sat up and rocked her. "How did you get in here?"
She played with her tiny feet. "Me no tired. Me wanna play!"
"I was thinking that you were going to say that." I glanced at the alarm clock on my nightstand, and then back at her. "You are lucky that it is morning. Otherwise, I would be sending you straight back to bed."
She grabbed the end of her dress and lifted it, revealing her diaper and belly. She does this whenever she is super hungry.
"Ah. Is that why you are in Mommy and Daddy's bedroom? Do you want your favorite parents in the world to fix you a yummy breakfast?"
"Yeah!"
"Hmm. I predict that you will eat pancakes with chocolate chips. Am I right?"
"Yes!"
I pushed off the covers and let my legs and feet dangle off the bed. "You really cannot get enough of your chocolate chip pancakes, and I do not blame you. When it comes to chocolate chip pancakes, no one can create them as excellent as your father. Despite that, I am sure that he is tired of fixing them and your brother is sick of eating them. He said that he will go on a hunger strike if he has to eat another pancake, and you do not want him to be hungry, do you?"
The baby shook her head and peered over my shoulder and cooed.
"What is it, sweetheart? What are you looking at?"
"Daddy!"
I shifted my upper body and realized that Caleb was wide awake. He had his elbow on his pillow and his head resting in his hand. He had on this big smile and sighed dreamily. I could feel my cheeks getting hot and set our daughter next to him. Tamara fell on her back and raised her feet in the air.
"What are you looking at?" I asked my husband, crossing my arms.
"Why, at two of my favorite girls in the world."
I raised an eyebrow. "Two of your favorite girls in the world? Who are the others?"
"Uh, the other favorite girl is my sister. And my mom now that your parents and mine accepted our relationship."
I laid my body on its side, facing Caleb. "I guess that family members are the exception to the rule."
We and the kids finally got our butts out of bed and began another fresh day. We assisted Tamara and Cal in getting dressed and fixed chocolate chip waffles. Our son was so happy that they were waffles and not pancakes. When all four of us were sitting at the table, Caleb led us in prayer. It was then that I made the announcement.
"I know that this is out of the blue, especially for Cal and Tamara, but I called Kara last night and asked if she could take the kids for at least three hours."
Neither Cal nor Tamara were disappointed with the idea. They loved Kara and Wendow and Triso and hanging out with them. Caleb, on the other hand, was not pleased. He was so taken aback that he almost choked on what he was chewing.
"Caleb, are you okay?"
He held up a finger, signaling me to give him a minute, and swallowed hard. He coughed a couple times and said, "I am fine, Cindy. What I am not fine with is the fact that you arranged Kara to babysit our son and daughter without my consent."
I leaned forward and lowered my voice to a whisper. "I will explain after Kara takes them. I promise that you will not be mad at me anymore."
"Who says that I am mad at you? You would have to do something so cruel to make me angry."
A half an hour after we were all done with breakfast, Kara and her daughters arrived to our house. Cal took a few toys with him, and I handed the backpack that contained what a baby would need, such as diapers and milk bottles. Cal and Tamara hugged me and Caleb and followed the aliens to their car. I shut the door and sat on the couch. Caleb joined me.
"So my lovely wife, why did you send our children away? Why did you want us to be alone?"
I held his face and said, "I know that this sudden, but I really want to have your baby."
"Wait a minute. Is this what you brought up last night?"
"Yes, and you fainted."
"It is no surprise that I fainted. It is insane."
I removed my hands from his face. "Caleb Night. Are you saying that you do not want to have our baby? A baby that would have your DNA and mine?"
He stood. "I did not say that I do not want to have a baby with you. I would be honored for you to carry my child."
"So why did you say seconds ago that us having a baby is insane?"
"I did not mean that was insane. I meant that the idea of bringing a baby into the world is sudden for me. I am not mentally prepared to have a third child."
"You were not mentally prepared for Cal."
My cellphone rang, and I answered it. It was the doctor. He wanted me and Caleb to visit the hospital right away.
