I was appalled and offended. Okay, I was not offended. Forlot characters are not easily offended like that some of you real worlders are. But I had every good reason to be outraged. A worker who worked with young children and teenagers was bringing race into the adoption conversation. I thought that the human race was passed discrimination. It is sad that people can be blinded by the truth.

Alex yanked the baby from my grasps and rocked her. Not only was I furious with this idiot lady, but Tamara and the baby were whimpering and holding out their arms with their hands in gripping positions. They were upset that they would not be sisters.

"I hope that you can accept my apology," Alex stated. "I have no doubt that you would be a great mom to this baby."

"Then what is the problem? Why will you not let me and my husband adopt her?" I demanded. I knew that it was about skin color judging by the two questions that she had asked me.

"You and your husband are forbidden to adopt any kid at all. If both of you had the same skin color, I would not be making this difficult for you."

I narrowed my eyebrows. "Excuse me?"

"Please do not take this the wrong way. I am just doing what needs to be done. If your husband and children were black, I would have no problem with helping you two adopt the baby. This baby needs to be with a black family because she herself is black. As a matter of fact..." She scooped up Tamara. "...this baby whom you claim is your daughter should not even be your daughter because the two of you have different skin colors."

I growled and tried to retrieve Tamara back, but the idiot worker kept her out of my reach. I exclaimed, "You cannot take away my daughter! You have no right!"

"I am doing these babies a huge favor. You do not want them to grow up and be confused about skin color, do you?"

"I want these beautiful girls to be raised by a loving mother and a loving father. My husband is filled with so much love and passion that any child will be overwhelmed."

"Are you comparing him...to God?"

"Absolutely not. I am just describing to you that Caleb Night is a good man and treats everybody equally."

Her eyes bulged from their sockets, and she blinked rapidly. "Caleb Night? The Caleb Night?"

"The one and only."

"Oh. My. Goodness. That makes this situation even worse."

I squinted at her. "Are you implying that Caleb is not fit to be a husband or father? 'Cause if you are, your face will meet my fist."

"I would agree with you if Caleb were not a bully."

"'A bully'?" I repeated. "You are mistaken. He is the opposite of a bully. If any character in this series is a bully, it is Ava Campbell. She scarred him for life."

"Maybe the Ava girl scarred him for life because he deserved it."

"That is it!"

I grabbed her by the shirt and slammed her against the wall. She cried out and threatened that she would contact the hospital so that they could get in touch with the police. I did not care whether the police came to the orphanage or not. She would be arrested for stealing my daughter. As much as I wanted to smack her, I knew that Caleb would not approve unless I was defending myself. Also, I did not want to hurt the babies.

Tamara and the infant were eager to be in my arms and away from the wicked witch. They squirmed, and then the orphan got an idea. She opened her mouth and clamped down on Alex's arm. Alex screamed as she shoved me and dropped Tamara. Thankfully, I caught her in time. Her tiny body shook, and I rubbed her belly to calm her down.

Meanwhile, the orphan was digging her teeth into Alex's flesh and hanging on as best as she could. I could not believe that behavior that Alex was showing her. She was flailing her arm, flailing the baby, around and trying to pry her off. I set Tamara down and grasped the baby. She turned her attention to me, and I told her to stop. She pulled her teeth from the flesh and hugged me. I hugged her back and set her next to Tamara.

Alex examined the injury and and covered it. She gave me a glare that could kill. "I am going to sue you," she stated. "I am going to sue you and Caleb until you have nothing left."

I smirked. "How can you sue me and my husband when she is not our daughter? We have not adopted her."

"I can still sue you for attacking me."

"The only reason that I attacked you was because you stole my child."

"I was protecting her from you and your dumb husband."

"What in the world is going on over here?"

It was a mistress. She waddled to where we were and tapped her foot. She seemed to be in her forties or fifties.

Before I could make my case, Alex pointed a finger at me and said, "This young woman needs to be thrown out and have her kids taken away."

The mistress rubbed her chin. "And why is that?"

"She is a racist and trying to run this good town to the ground. She had the audacity to attack me while I was holding two babies."

"One of those babies was my daughter!" I spat.

The mistress raised a hand, signaling for us to shut the heck up. "There is no need to waste your breaths. Alex, you will receive a promotion immediately."

"What?!" I exclaimed.

"And by promotion, I mean that you are fired."

"What?!" Alex shouted. "Why are you firing me?!"

"I overheard the whole conversation. You are discriminating."
