"She's close," Drexel said suddenly, popping off his victim's thigh. Blood dripped from the corners of Drexel's mouth. His stained teeth, with little bits of flesh caught between them, stood in stark contrast to his pale, white skin. "Oh, I can feel her, Utz. She's going to taste so sweet."

Blatant ecstasy flooded his arteries and Drexel closed his eyes to savor every drop.

"What?" He asked opening his eyes again, not having heard his friend's comment. A war of emotions was racing to his center. Suddenly, Drexel couldn't wait to leave.

He rubbed his palm across his dirty mouth.

"Then they won't be far behind either," Utz repeated, slurping the last of Mother Superior's decadent "O" Positive from her throat.

They hadn't completely drained the old biddies. They'd taken just enough to put the women into a short slumber. When they came to, in a day or so, neither nun would remember what'd happened to them. The boys' saliva would help with the healing process of the bite marks, effectively dismissing suspicions of what'd transpired.

Utz rolled his eyes when he heard Drexel growl low in his throat. "I don't care. She hasn't reached her full potential, yet, Utz," Drexel explained. "It needs to be now, before she turns eighteen. There has to be a way to get to her. They can't guard her day and night."

"Actually, they can," Utz sighed. "Why do we have to find this bitch anyway, Drexel? You know what it means if we lose. Levin was one of the oldest vampires there ever was and even he-"

Drexel stood rigid in front of the  central fireplace of the convent and tried to tune his friend out while a log burned red and blue flames of heat. For the life of him he couldn't fathom what made these women hide within these walls, locked away from the rest of the world. Stone and mortar gave way to stained glass and polished wood as the sunshine threatened to grace them with its presence. It had been raining before they'd arrived but the skies must have cleared.

Drexel laughed to himself.

He paused to wonder which ancient vampire in their bloodline had started the rumor; that vampires couldn't survive in sunlight.

The fools.

All the myth did was give vampires an edge. No one would suspect them if they thought vampires didn't hunt during the day.

Maybe that was the point, though, Drexel allowed. Let the innocent think they could find safety in the light; that only in darkness could the demons be found.

They were wrong, though.

Vampires were just as lethal in the daylight as they were at night. On second thought, Drexel surmised, the vampire who started that rumor had been a fucking genius, and maybe these nuns were right to try to hide from the evil lurking out there in the world, not that doing so had helped them this afternoon.

How stupid they had been to invite two unknown men into their parlour. The idiots, Drexel thought to himself with another laugh.

"Drexel," Utz said while shaking his arm, ruining his good mood. "Yo, man. Did you hear what I said? I said, she'll be protected. The Three Mothers would have-"

Drexel wretched his arm away in aggravation whipping Utz violently into a nearby couch. A sharp crack echoed in the cavernous room. A wooden leg had splintered, knocking the furniture off kilter.

"Watch it, Alte Landsau," Utz snarled. "I've had about enough of your free hands today."

"Then stay outta' my fuckin' way," Drexel replied. "Everytime I turn around you're up my ass. Verpiss dich, der Mistkerl!

In a blink of an eye Utz was on his feet, Drexel's throat clenched between his palms. A poker crashed onto the slate platform the fireplace grill opened up towards. "You're a real asshole, Drex, you know that?"

"Yeah," Drexel challenged him with bated breathe. "der Scheißkerl. What're you gonna do about it?"

For a full minute neither vampire moved so much as an eyelash. Tension was thick and neither man broke their stare as the wood burning at their feet crackled beside them,  hissing and popping, each vampire visualizing the other's head on a pike.

When the two nuns began to moan, however, both men turned to look at their prey. The sound of orthopedic shoes echoed down the hall, cricking against the marble walkway, and the boys grabbed each of the women, laying them out, seemingly napping, on the velour-upholstered couches.

The vampires made a hasty escape out of the service entrance of the building, located off the kitchen, and behind the sitting room.

Against his good judgment, Utz knew where they were headed without asking.

They were after her.
