it was late at night, for both clay and george. the two were both online playing minecraft, just like they did on any other sleepless night. there was no necessary goal when they played together on nights like these, it was just something to cure their boredom.

"george?" clay asked as he leaned back in his chair, taking a break from the game.

"clay?" george said in return.

"how do you feel about gream shippers?" clay asked, emphasizing the word gream. george took a moment to think.

"i've told you before, i don't really mind. they can do what they please." george said.

"cool. just wonderin'." clay said as he bit his bottom lip nervously. "what about when they ask about your sexuality?"

"doesn't really faze me when they ask. i just love who i love. i don't really think everything needs a label." george explained. clay was silent as he sat back up in his chair.

"i wish we weren't separated by distance." clay said as he stared at his computer screen.

"me too." george mumbled, feeling as his cheeks grew hot. "i'll have to come visit you soon." george said. a smile crept up onto his face, and he bit his bottom lip to stop it from growing any bigger.

"i can't wait." clay said.

"after years, we'll finally meet." george said. he was mostly speaking to himself, but clay wasn't aware of that.

"it'll be like meeting a toddler. get it, cause you're so small!" clay joked, laughing until he began to wheeze.

"shut up! i'm the average size!" george defended himself. in reality, george didn't mind the height jokes—he always imagined what being hugged by someone as tall as clay would be like.

"the toddler is whining now!" clay said as he wheezed once more, holding his stomach as he laughed. george smiled to himself as he waited for clay's laughing fit to be over. "god, you're so cute." clay said as he finally was able to speak again.

"what?" george asked. his cheeks flushed scarlet again at clay's words.

"oh—uh, nothing." clay said in an attempt to cover up what he had just said.

"calling me cute isn't just 'nothing'!" george said.

"it was an accident." clay said. "i mean, you are cute i just didn't mean—"

"i get it, no worries." george reassured. there was a tiny pang of hurt in his chest at clay's words, but hey; why would clay like him? they were just friends after all.

"you are cute." clay mumbled.

"i would say the same, but i've yet to see your face." george said as he began to wonder.

what did clay look like?

"i can assure you it's very attractive. you'll swoon once you see it." clay said as he let out a wheeze.

"oh i bet. it's probably cute, huh?" george teased, emphasizing the word 'cute'.

"you'll never let me live that down huh?" clay asked.

"never!" george said as he laughed, being careful not to be too loud.

clay had never realized it, but george's laugh was so adorable and wholesome, he could only imagine how it sounded in person.

"i love nights like these." clay said nervously, biting his bottom lip. the seconds it took for george to reply felt like hours.

"i do too." george said. the brunette felt butterflies take over his stomach as he agreed, swallowing a lump that had formed in his throat nervously.

"i love you george." clay paused. "you don't have to say it back, i know you won't anyway. but i just thought i'd let you know." clay said.

"i should probably head to sleep soon." george said as he tried to direct the conversation away from the topic of love.

"yeah, me too. i had a lot of fun tonight. playing the game and everything, i mean." george nodded despite the fact that clay couldn't see him.

"i had fun talking to you."

clay smiled once he heard those words leave george's mouth.

was it possible george felt the same?

"i always have fun staying up to talk to you." clay retorted.

george felt his cheeks flush pink for the thousandth time that night.

"i love you clay." george murmured.

clay's eyes went wide at the words. his stomach twisted in a knot and suddenly his palms were clammy.

"i love you too, george." clay ultimately said, smiling like an idiot.
