"Mum. Remember the boy I talked to you about on my first day?" I asked and she laughed.
"Yeah."
"Well. He ask me out.." I break the news expecting her to get mad but she is all smiles.
"Enjoy it while you are still young. But don't take it seriously." She played with my hair.
"I know mum.."
I showered and did my homework as usual before watching the tv. Nah, not really. Mum noticed how restless I was when the phone rang.
"Hello?" She answered just as I was about to reach for the phone.
"Ahh. You are the boy my daughter is waiting restlessly to call." She exclaimed and I took the phone away from her.
"Sorry. Don't mind my mum. She's a tease." I said but I could hear him saying sorry in the background.
I giggled as I glared at mum who is laughing away.
"So what song do you want me to sing today?" He asked happily.
"Any song that you like. I wanna know your taste in music as well." I said.
"Okay.. I shall sing you some love song then." He answered as he began strumming the guitar. I listened attentively to him and swoon.
How can he be so attractive? Good looking, kind, gentleman (ugh I hate to admit but yeah), great at singing and even playing the guitar? Damn.
"Hey Mike.. Why .." I paused halfway unsure whether to ask the question.
"Yea? Just ask me anything.." He said.
"Why me? There are so many pretty girls especially in your class." I asked confidently now.
We all know why we asked stupid questions like this. And in my case, to boost my morale and confidence. Why did he choose me when it could have been Faith or Melissa?
"Just because... because you are the first person to stare back at me. No one had done it before. And when you stared hard, I couldn't help but to notice you. Yea sure, you seemed like the average girl next door but you happened to sit next to me hence you became my next door girl that I fell in love with." He explained carefully and I was touched.
Look. Mike's not the first guy I had a crush on but before this. I wasn't brave to make known of my feelings and in the end, my middle school friend got ahead and got the guy that I like. Can you imagine how sad and betrayed I was? But like a fool, I forgave her. I mean... Friends are more important right?
But with Mike, it was different. I didn't try that hard at first but he had taken notice of me. And being greedy, I crave for more. I felt confident when a guy like Mike loves a girl like me. It's crazy huh?
"Mike. I don't think your girl-friends like me though?" I said softly with a sigh.
"So? Don't care about them. I care about you. Look. Is this the reason why you have been avoiding me?" He asked.
"Well yeah. I hate getting stares and whispers as if I'm such a bad person." I replied and he sighed too.
"I wished I could hug you right now so you don't have to feel that way. Hey.. tomorrow's Friday.. what are your plans after school?" He asked.
"I'm heading somewhere near with Chiqa for awhile. How bout you?" I asked him back.
"Why so secretive for?" He chuckled.
"Well... if we happened to meet each other after school tomorrow. Outside. I will really believe in our fate." I simply stated and he agreed.
Mike's a confident guy. He accepts challenges and he takes on them. He really knows the way to a girl's heart. What if I'm not his first girlfriend? That's the reason why he is so good at this? Damn it Sky. You and your unnecessary worries.
"Hey girlfriend.. you are zoning off again. You should go rest. I will see you in school tomorrow." He says.
"I can't wait to see you boyfriend. I love you." I said it first out of nowhere and I gasped, hands over my mouth in disbelief.
"I love you too girlfriend." I could hear him smile.
