"Mate!" he exclaims, and I nod, though it’s not Nicholas—it’s Christopher. His green eyes light up as he takes me in, grinning as he pulls me into his arms. Sparks ignite everywhere he touches. One hand wraps around my waist, while the other gently caresses my cheek. My wolf practically dances with joy at his touch, her excitement bursting through me. His rich, chocolatey scent fills my senses. "Mine," he growls softly, and his voice makes me crave more.

"Oh, Chris!" I quickly pull away as Grace steps into the room. He growls in frustration, making me bite back a smile. "So you two know each other?" Grace asks, smiling.

"Yeah, she’s my girlfriend," he replies, and I blush furiously.

"Come in, have some cake," Grace says, leading us inside. Chris smirks down at me, holding my hand as we follow her. We sit down, and as Grace heads to the kitchen to get some cake, he leans close to my neck, brushing his lips softly against it. A quiet gasp escapes me, and he chuckles as I bite my lip.

He pulls back just as Grace returns with a slice of cake. "Anna, dear, come with me," she says, taking my hand and guiding me to a room.

"Here, wear this dress," she smiles, handing it to me.

"Thank you, but you really don’t have to," I start, but she shakes her head.

"Oh, think of it as a birthday gift," she insists.

"But it seems expensive," I reply.

"My husband bought it for me, saving up two months’ salary," she explains. "But it doesn’t fit me anymore, so take it." She pats my cheek.

"Thank you so much, Grace!" I hug her. "Change and come out—Chris will love seeing you in that dress," she smiles before walking out.

I put on the dress, a stunning blend of shiny purple and blue—a perfect combination. I stare at myself in the mirror in awe; it hugs my curves perfectly, reaching down to my ankles with thin-strapped sleeves. When I walk out, I see Christopher freeze.

"You look beautiful, dear," Grace says, hugging me.

"Doesn’t she?" she turns to him, and he seems speechless. He stands up and walks toward me, my heart beating faster. He raises his hand, pulling out my hair tie so my hair falls over my shoulders.

"I can’t take my eyes off you," he whispers, nearly making me faint.

"So, now you two can go celebrate," Grace says with a smile.

"Celebrate?" he asks, looking confused.

"It’s her birthday—don’t tell me you forgot," Grace teases, patting his bicep.

"I’m so sorry, baby. Let me make it up to you," he says, wrapping his arm around my waist.

"You don’t have to," I reply with a smile.

"No, no, I’m taking you to dinner tonight," he insists, guiding me to the door.

"We’ll pick up her things later," he tells Grace, who nods.

"Have fun, you two," she waves as he leads me to his car.

"Where are we going?" I ask as he starts the car.

"Let it be a surprise," he smiles.

"So, tell me about yourself, Anna," he says, glancing at me. My name sounds perfect coming from his lips, as does every word he says.

"I’m about to graduate from high school and just turned 18," I reply, not wanting him to know I’m the Beta’s ‘useless’ daughter.

"You know me?" he asks, and I nod.

"Alpha Christopher," I reply, making him groan in appreciation.

"Call me Chris, or honey, or any other name you prefer," he smirks, and I blush.

"I have a twin brother," he adds, and I nod.

He stops outside a seven-star hotel.

"Step out, princess," he says, giving me his hand to help me out. The waiters greet him—it’s clear he visits often. We enter the elevator, and when we reach the top floor, he covers my eyes. He leads me forward a few steps, then uncovers my eyes to reveal a breathtaking view of the whole town. There’s a table set with two chairs, and as the lights dim, candles flicker to life.

"This is beautiful," I say, turning to him, only to find him on one knee.

"Will you accept me as your mate?" he asks, presenting a small ring. I blink back tears and swallow hard.

"Yes, I, Anna Winston, accept you, Christopher Hoult, as my mate," I reply, and he quickly stands, pulling me into a kiss. The sparks are electrifying. My hands rest on his chest while his are around my waist. It’s a soft, passionate kiss. He pulls back and slides the ring onto my finger.

"You can’t imagine how happy I am," he murmurs, resting his forehead against mine.

"My Luna," he whispers, cupping my cheek. The word makes me flinch, and I quickly step back. He looks at me, confused.

"I want to go back," I say, feeling uneasy.

"But we just got here," he sounds disappointed.

"Please, I just want to go back," I insist. After a moment, he agrees. The ride back is silent, and he stops at Grace’s house. I quickly get out.

"You’re back early," Grace remarks as I walk past her, feeling him right behind me.

"I’m just not feeling well," I smile and go inside to change, folding the dress. I pick up my bag, ready to leave.

"What’s the rush, dear?" Grace asks, while Chris just watches.

"I… I’m just not feeling well. I want to go home," I reply with a small smile.

"Thank you for the dress." I walk out quickly.

"Let me drop you home," Chris says, following me.

"No, I’m fine. It’s nearby," I reply, not looking at him.

"Did I say something wrong?" he asks, still following.

"No, I just… need time," I say, continuing to walk. He grabs my wrist, gently pulling me toward him.

"Chris, I just—"

"Happy birthday," he whispers, and my heart melts. He plants a soft kiss on my forehead.

"Take care," he says with a smile, and I nod before walking home.
