It’s been an year since I came to Australia. I’m staying at George’s house. He is Dad’s best friend’s son. He is 25 and has a soon-to-be one-year-old son. He is the beta of this pack. Selena is his mate. She is 24. George’s younger brother, Cameron, also stays with them. He is 22 and hasn’t found his mate yet. He has been very close to me. He knows about what happened back in the States. His wolf is also white like mine, with blue eyes, but he is larger than me. My wolf really likes his company, and so does his.

I wake up and turn in my bed. I look at the calendar. It’s my birthday. Wow. I hear the door open and sit up.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!” Cam hugs me. I smile at him. George and Selena wish me well, too. I’m really happy being here. I did the right thing by coming here.

“Come on, it’s your day today! Let’s go celebrate!” Cam exclaims, and I nod. I quickly change into a white striped jumpsuit that he bought for my birthday, paired with white sneakers. I tie my hair back with a tiny clip.

“So what’s the plan?” I ask, coming downstairs.

“We’re going to the lake house,” Selena replies.

We eat breakfast and leave for the lake house. “Aren’t you all busy today?” I ask.

“We took leave for a week,” Cam smiles.

“A week?” I ask.

“Yep. Little Jack is also turning one in two days, so we thought we’d celebrate together,” Selena says.

“Thank you so much.” I hug Cam’s arm as he sits beside me.

After four hours, we reach the lake house.

“Oh, it seems like the one near ours is being cleaned,” George says, pointing out the people cleaning the house in the neighborhood. Maybe they are staying for a holiday.

“So pick your rooms,” George says, and we run upstairs.

“This one’s mine!” I exclaim.

“And the opposite one is mine,” Cam replies.

We quickly throw our bags in our rooms and head downstairs.

“You two can go for a run. We’ll prepare the other things,” Selena says.

“I could stay to help,” I reply.

“Hey, come on! Jack is sleeping. Let them have some private time,” Cam pulls me away. George laughs, and Selena blushes.

We walk behind the trees and change. We hide our clothes and begin to run.

‘Wanna race?’ Cam mindlinks, and I nod. We race to a cliff. Cam wins, as always.

“Look!” he exclaims, and I look down the cliff.

‘So beautiful!’ I say.

We spend time running and eating fruits. Suddenly, an uneasy feeling starts to form within me.

‘Are you alright?’ Cam asks, noticing my change in demeanor.

‘I’m fine,’ I reply.

We head back and change.

“Can you smell that?” he asks.

I sniff the air and notice some new scents that feel familiar.

“Maybe the people next door came,” he replies, and I nod.

“Cake’s ready!” Selena exclaims as we enter.

“It smells good!” I walk into the kitchen. They sing me a birthday song as I blow out the candles. The dinner is awesome. After hugging them, I head back to my room.

I change and turn around when my eyes meet someone from the house nearby. I walk to the window to see clearly. The blue eyes feel familiar.

“Nicholas?” I softly speak, and the person quickly closes the curtains. Was it really him, or was it my imagination?

Maybe it really was my imagination. Why would he be here? And why can’t I smell him? Maybe it’s because he already marked Hannah. I groan and shake my head. “Forget about them, Anna!” I pat my cheeks and go to bed.

POV OF CHRISTOPHER

We booked three rooms in a hotel. Nick and I are going to see the pack’s alpha. He is a good friend of Dad’s. Hannah is sleeping in the hotel. Tomorrow is her birthday. We greet the alpha and are heading home when a familiar scent hits us. We look at each other, knowing exactly to whom the scent belongs.

We follow the direction and stop when we spot our beautiful mate. She still looks the same—angelic. Her smile makes us smile. But our smiles vanish when we see a guy put his arm around our mate. I growl and hear Nick growling beside me. We don’t like it. The two look really close, which our wolves don’t appreciate. Nick walks toward them, but I stop him.

“Don’t. There could be people watching us,” I warn. He growls again and sighs angrily. With one last glance, we leave.

The next day, I buy the lake house nearby. The spies inform me that the house in the neighborhood belongs to the beta. Anna is staying with them and will be there for a week. We move in soon. They have already arrived. Having our mate nearby but not being able to touch her or talk to her makes our wolves really mad.

We see her returning from her run with the same guy we saw yesterday. I want to rip that guy’s throat out for being so close to my mate.

POV OF NICK

We bring her a cake, which she cheerfully cuts. I am more interested in what’s going on next door. My mate’s sweet scent is driving me crazy. After dinner, I go upstairs and see movement in the room against mine. I can see my mate. She notices me and walks closer to the window.

“Nicholas?” she whispers, and I quickly close the curtains. My heart is racing. I feel like a teenage boy who has just encountered his first crush. Hearing my name from her makes me feel things I never knew I could feel, and my wolf is restless.
